'23 Herndon Climb

It just hit me...

I just saw pics of my son signing his 2-for-7. Proud moment. The picture would be a framer if not for the huge white mask covering his face.

However, in two short days he will be climbing on top of the same Mids he was just masked along with. And this time, they will all be maskless.

The difference between the two scenarios? Grease! Grease is apparently a Covid deterrent. I will now be rubbing down my entire body in bacon grease daily until we kick this thing.
I know how you feel. My son is a Firstie now and his photo of signing 2 for 7 was while wearing a mask as well.

@THParent @brewmeist I feel ya! I hear ya! I-day for 24 was poorly streamed through facebook and some families were lucky enough to get photos (remember - we weren't there) through random photographers and all had masks on. My mantle has my DS with his hand raised wearing a mask. I get it! The events that were cancelled should stay cancelled. Seems silly to try and make them up now. Kinda of like my DS's HS graduation - it was missed but administration said "we will make it up" Really? Why? Me nor my mid will ever go back to HS....USNA needs to move on and the class of 23 should not have to suffer....PROTRIMID - that's a whole other story - they need that and fast!

Maybe the Herndon climb tomorrow will be a fantastic kick off to the AC year?? Guess we are about to find out!!

I saw that the Chaplains are going to live stream it on FB, BTW.

Lol, this whole exercise is major fustercluck.

But...

'23 will be the only class in history to have the Supe and 'Dant complete the climb for them AND then complete Herndon themselves after the subsequent class has already done it.

So I guess their place in history is assured.

(I actually think that '23 should complete the climb exactly as the Supe and 'Dant did it..with extension ladders.)

I believe this belongs in the “Bacon Forum”….

Unless voluntold, my mid is not going to watch or participate and all of his friends feel likewise. They loved the idea of doing it commissioning week 2023. He hopes it goes 8 hours and the Supe and Dant have to sit there and watch. Having 22 grease the pole just adds to the cynicism. Not a great way for the new Dant to build esprit de corps. My DS said they will always be the outcast class.

It is a "military obligation."

Well it appears class of 2023 is doing it. Making some progress so far. I cringe when a person falls.

DS just reported they are watching from the comfort of Mother B. It was too crazy.
