My wife and I are looking forward to 2C PW end of September. We've got our flights and close by hotel. What are the highlights? What are the must see things? Any good memories from past 2C PW's ?

When we were planning ours, and speaking with upperclass, the only thing that came up that I was surprised about for me personally was that families went. Mid Sibs. Even when shadowing their Mid, that there were Mid Sibs there in the classrooms (they had left theirs at home bc they thought it was only parents that attended). IOW, it’s a family affair.

Great to know. Our son has only one brother, no sisters....brother is working in Houston...so for us, its Mom & Dad. But, I really like the idea of sibs....thanks.

I felt eating with the Brigade in King Hall was the highlight. The interactions with some of the 2C midshipmen that we had grown to know and seeing them and how they interacted (might not be the right word) with the plebes at the table was interesting. By the way we did not choose to eat in King Hall during PPW as my son wanted to get off the yard asap during PPW so it was a new experience for my wife and I.

This years PPW did not include King Hall meal due to COVID. However my DS was anxious to leave the yard so he did not mind the absence of the meal.

Did y’all get to go into their rooms?

Yes we did. Much more worn than expected. Very Spartan. The sample room they show visitors is much nicer.

DS was happy to not have to chop his way through the Hall.
Spartan means less to move!! Don’t worry..someday they will loose like a regular dorm room. With LOTS to move.

I may have the date and function wrong but I think the jewelers will be there for the 2C to order their rings. Wife and Daughter skipped something to go at the opening bell and got to to look without the long lines later in the day. I think it was 2C weekend?

If thats the case...good tip about going early.

Some Midshipmen embrace that spartan lifestyle throughout their time at USNA. My DS greatly reduced the amount of "stuff" that he owns, so that he can move anywhere quickly and efficiently. When he was home, he made a pile of stuff he didn't need and we took it to Goodwill. Now we have three guest bedrooms. No longer is there an unused edifice to "the boy."

I had two home this summer. It’s SOOOOOO cleansing to get rid of their STUFF!! My firstie has outgrown a lot of it. And his (now fiancé 💍 💙) has forbade him to wear his high school old cruddy junk 😂😂. Even his stuff from summer school virtually here at home was left when he reformed last year.

It’s a life skill, too, to let go of stuff. Bc stuff is just stuff. And this mom and dad don’t want to be storing junk. The important things? Yes. But not the STUFF.

Brings up the question for those that have been through it ….what do military do with those kinds of thing? Keepsakes, etc? Do y’all leave them at mom and dads? Or store them somewhere when deployed? Move them from station to station 🤔
maybe that’s a new thread topic…

If you thought the rooms looked worn, you should of seen what they looked like before renovation back in the mid 90s-early 2000s! I think the rooms were around 60 years old before the last reno.

I think I have 2 Rubbermaid containers of my military stuff. Coins, a few uniforms, plaques, patches, etc. I also have old programs, team pics, etc from my basketball days at USNA. Have my old rank, shoulder boards, USNA name tapes and door name plate. I have had all my USNA and Marine t shirts made into t shirt quilts. You learn what is important and what is not. Moving a lot helps to keep things cleaned up and streamlined. My parents sent me photos of my old bedroom turned guest room during Plebe Summer. They wasted no time.

Congrats to ‘25 and welcome to the club. Enjoy this weekend, you earned it. The next week is definitely one of transition and change. We all survived it, so will you. Find your new routine with classes, studying and working out. The faster you do, the better you will do. Good luck!

We just navigated our first restaurant experience in DTA with DS in summer whites. We went to O’Briens. Had my first ever crab omelette. Fantastic. We had been headed to Chick and Ruth’s but OBriens had immediate seating. Chicks is still on the bucket list.
