2nd board results

I was so happy and relieved this morning, I had to take a knee to soak it in. My retirement account just got a huge reprieve. Plus... I'm very proud my kid will be joining my Army family.

Thank you Army for seeing the potential in and showing confidence in my son. Thank you to the tax payers and citizens for supporting him in his efforts these next several years. He'll serve your country with dignity and honor.

Very classy. Well said Sir!

Well first off Congratulations to all who have been awarded a scholarship.:thumb::thumb: Now I guess what my son and I need to do is find out how to up his score for the next board. I have talked with the PMS at the school my son interviewed at, but I have no idea what he scored on the PMS interview. At this point in the game can you change your application on the website before the next board? Also I have seen a couple threads here stating that if you don't get a scholarship you can also go to your college, enroll in the ROTC course and be considered with the help of your cadre for a scholarship at that point. Is this the same process as here? If not, is this a realistic option for us? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes... If you kid doesn't get a scholarship during the national selections, and he still very much so wants to be an Army officer, encourage him to join the AROTC program on campus. There are campus based Army scholarships too. If he doesn't get a campus based scholarship he can still participate and get other pay and incentives that assist with tuition and whatnot (GI Bill, SMP etc). There is still plenty of $$ opportunities available. It was my experience that the majority of cadets that commission are NOT on national scholarships... but everyone commissioned got the very same shiny gold bar on the last day of school!

Pick the school that your DS feels is the best fit for him, enroll in AROTC, work hard and he may earn himself a 3, 3.5 or 4 year scholarship. All you have to do is enroll, running would be a good idea too.

Lol I am a former Army Sergeant so his running is good. He got a 350 on the pt test last time I gave it to him. So physically nothing to worry about, which now that I think about it, I'm not sure where he got that from because I hated PT when I was in. Thank all of you for your information, I think My wife and I have made the decision to enroll freshman year at his 1st choice and see what happens from there. With him enrolling in AROTC of course. That is if we don't hear anything from the last board.

Any Chance?

So does anyone think there is actually any chance that those of us that still show "Boarded" could see a change today? Has it happened before that they've been updated at different times in the day for winners? Seems unlikely to me. Was confident in my stats but I guess not! Thanks for any opinion.

It has sometimes taken 2-3 days in the past - so all hope for this board is not lost. And there is always the next board. Go see "Lone Survivor" while you wait so you can learn something about not giving up. You're always in the fight.

NROTC

It looks like everyone so far is for Army. Is Navy on the same time line? Should their results also be coming out today or soon?

Thanks and congratulations to all the awardees!

Navy has separate boards and works on a totally different schedule. Further there are separate Navy boards for each option - Navy, Marine and Nursing. There are only two boards each for Marine and Nursing. There are many boards for Navy options.

ChildeRoland;

Please be aware that there may be some unused, unallocated (i.e. scholarships that were turned down, or where recepient was medically disqualified, etc.), that in some cases end up going to the ROTC unit at university.

These can be awarded as early as July.

Typically this happens with smaller Universities. You won't see this with any Ivy, Big 10, or other large university.

My son busted all 3 boards last year, but was contacted by ROOs at two of the universities listed on his AROTC scholarship app after last board asking if he was still interested. He had a phone interview with one, and an on-site personal interview at the other.

Long story short, he received a call July 3rd with a 4-year scholarship offer to both universities. Had to pick one right then and there. One in-state school is `18000, the other is 14000 for # of students. Both are comparable in $ (about $14,000 per year for tuition, fees, room and board). At the school he picked, they also gave him a room & board scholarship for the full year and he also received a small merit scholarship for all 4 years.

He has done exceptionally well and is training for the Bataan Death March memorial event currently. Absolutely loves AROTC.

Was not a stellar ROTC scholarship applicant (24 ACT, 3.4 GPA, 1 honors course, pt job, lettered in two sports, some volunteer hours, Eagle Scout, only an ok PT score (under 300), but aced the interview (given at a school on his list, but not one where there were any unallocated scholarships left over).

Bottom line, don't give up yet. You might want to have DS start calling some smaller schools to see if they have had unallocated scholarships in the past and how they award them / when.

Thank you, kinnem.

Tgun, thanks for the insight. Yeah his first choice is University of Tampa(Room and Food paid for by university to ROTC scholarship winners) here in town, so it's pretty small the cadre liked him alot, so I hope something like this occurs. He is really excited about a career in the Army, and would love the chance this scholarship would bring. Still hopeful just weighing all the options.

Very well put, ABF! Congratulations to your DS and his parents and to all of today's scholarship winners and their families! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

I was just awarded a scholarship to my top two schools. Should I contact the ROTC battalions at the schools?

Question

Writing from Kabul in Afghanistan on a short job trip. Retired Officer, Ranger, JSOC, etc and hit the site and my boy says boarded. Thoughts on his chances.

3.6 of 4 GPA
5 AP Courses (all A's)
Goes to an Episcopal Boarding School (very active)
4x Starter in Lacrosse (Captain this year of team). (Offer D1 Lax Scholarship)
1970 on SAT (not Super Scored)
Scored 780 and 790 on Bio and German SAT Suppliments
High Honnors each trimester since Middle of Sophmore Year
AJGA Golfer +1 Handicap
On his PT Test he did: 56 situps, 49 Pushups, 6:15 mile
Has been accepted so far to Baylor, Univ of Kentucky, James Madision, UGA, College of Charleston, Fordham and we are waiting on BU, Wake, UGA

He listed Bio as his major as well as Pre-Med and in his essay said he wanted to be a military doctor. Wonder if the threat of deferment hurt him.

Anyway congrats to all who made it. I run a company that does SOF, Cyber, IT Infrastructure as well as some unique things and enjoyed ROTC and am with the Military every day for work. Have over 800 of my guys on job sites. Great life and there will be lots of changes in the coming years.

Any insight on my question would be great. RLTW (Rangers Lead the Way).

Just found out I got a scholarship to my top two IS schools! Now just to find out what type I got!

so if the status is still reading "Boarded" and never changed to "status unknown", does that mean most likely it won't be this board? It seems like everyone who has been awarded, had a "status unknown" yesterday.
