2023-2024 Navy ROTC Scholarship Deadline and Board Dates

The Navy ROTC scholarship deadline is January 31, 2024. As per previous years, they boards run every couple of weeks from September to April.

I'm curious if the interview with the Recruiting Commander was for an ISR scholarship? I ask because typically the interviews are done by the PNS of one of the NROTC units. To make sure the interview was logged into the system your son should check his portal to see what the status says. If the recruiting commander (NTAG) is new to the process, they sometimes don't forward the interview over to NSTC. But the previous poster is correct. End of October tends to be when the first scholarship notifications go out.

The soonest is the end of October, but it could be you don't hear anything until spring. Even though the application is in before the 1st board, it doesn't mean that your son's application will definitely be in that 1st board.

Exact numbers are not released. Last year there were about 1200 scholarships awarded (not counting ISR or Nurse, etc). there is possible upwards of 1900ish this year. The first few boards don't have a huge amount offered. The boards after January seem to have more awards as they get closer to the end of the cycle.

Some apps that are boarded this week might be put on the "waitlist" until later boards. Its best not to think too much about how many or get lost in the weeds of specific numbers. You'll either hear soming in a couple of weeks after a board, or you won't.

Think of it as a "skip the line" pass. Your DS has the chance for a potential fast path to get a scholarship. Is he "up" for a ISR, or he was told he would be "awarded" the ISR. There is likely a different. "up" for might be he is on the short list, but it has not been decided.

So, I found the PowerPoint presentation from the 22-23 application cycle (thank you @GWU PNS ! ). The first board for last year's cycle is shown as 17-21 October, and this thread was started by someone (ow_fish) that received their NROTC scholarship notification on 24 OCT, the Monday after the board met. I am surprised decisions were released that quickly! Is that an anomaly, or do notifications typically start going out the following Monday after the board?

The speed with which a particular board has their results approved depends on several variables. How many candidate records were reviewed and how close the scores were for the cut line are the main drivers. But sometimes the results are ready but the Admiral is on travel or dealing with higher priority issues. So the final approval and notification could take a couple days or couple weeks. And there is a new software system in use this year which could add a wrinkle into the mix.

MO boards are held at the recruiting district level, so dates can vary across the country. You're right, it is normally in November though.
