If you can only do one of these, which one would you choose? I would love to do both but it may not be possible.

    A Day

90 second send off versus parts of two days.

If you could only do one....

If you could only attend one, attend A-Day. You'll be able to spend time away from the post with you DS. I would also recommend getting a box fan so he can use it in his room when he returns.

We chose A-day. Absolutely the right choice for folks who can't make both, IMHO.

    A-day

Having been to both, go to A-day. No question. Don't forget Plebe/Parent before Spring Break. That was fantastic.

A Day. R Day is very memorable, but A day lasts a weekend. There were so many stories and as a parent it is so cool to see the A day parade. I waited for four years to see the graudation parade (the bookend to the A day parade) only to miss it because DS had failed to maintain his vehicle and I had to get it to a repair shop to confirm it was capable of making the 11.5 hour drive home.

Went to both for my 2017 and "hands down" if I were to pick one it would be A-Day. It is such a joyous weekend and great celebration of having "Slayed the BEAST" and your cadet being inducted into the Corp of Cadets. So emotional and the parade/review of the entire Corp is so very impressive. Your cadet will have so much to share during A-day weekend, whereas R-day they are in their "zone" mentally preparing themselves for BEAST and all that it entails. Not much conversation, not to mention that 90 sec. goodbye is brutal.

We went to both A-Day and R-Day and both were great (although my 12 year old son needed 2 hours to compose himself after the 90 second goodbye!) obviously A-Day is better because of the time you get to spend with your Cadet. On R-Day we looked at the map and were able to seat ourselves in the bleachers in front of his company and we did spot him and he smiled at us as well. The reasons I think R-Day is important are first that it is very cool to see your child in uniform for the first time at the oath ceremony, but more importantly it meant a lot to our cadet to see us! He wrote his first letter home the first day and he said it was a very stressful tough day and that seeing us during the oath ceremony meant so much to him. He was very proud of himself wearing the uniform and was glad we were there to see him. He survived the first day and when he saw that we were there for him and then he focused on the task at hand....goofy or not, it helped him or gave him strength to continue the new chapter in his life.
