I was surprised by some of the information in this article.

"Rogers was nominated by former U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson and also by U.S. Rep. John Shimkus."

I thought a person could only be nominated by one U.S. Representative (their own), either or both US Senators, the VP and the President. Maybe she meant was nominated the first time by one of these U.S. Reps?

"He wants to major in mechanical engineering, field artillery or armor."

I was unaware that cadets could major in field artillery or armor. Are these majors accredited by ABET?

I assume the author of the article was not utterly knowledgeable of the USMA admission process, nor did in-depth research about the difference between majors, and branch commission. Kudos for the nice story though.

The majors listed was probably a misunderstanding by the reporter. He probably said something like "I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering and want to branch ..."

The nomination confusion is probably because he went to prep school. He probably had a nomination from one when he applied the first time and then needed another for his second app. Both were representatives for District 15 and must have transitioned from one to the other between app year 1 and app year 2.
