    state flags parents weekend

Hi, not intentionally going off topic but you did jog my memory. I believe that the pc are supposed to have a state flag for parents weekend. If that is so, what size is needed? Someone said to try and get a capital flag. ???

During INDOC went to the "book store" all they had was the Merchant Marine Flag not the MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY flag. Did I miss it somewhere?

Uh Oh ..... our state parent association presented each candidate with a state flag.....we were under the impression that was the only thing that could be used to "decorate" their rooms...... it is the one thing that was not on the list that was packed in his bag on I-Day .......If it was taken, hopefully he will get it back........... or do we need to bring another?

I thought I read on another thread that the state flags are used as one of the items/activities counted toward recognition. West Marine has a complete collection of 12" x 18" state flags.

Speaking of flags....I heard from a Navy mom that the plebes needed an American flag in their room if they had more than three PCs in there, otherwise if would be considered a mutiny. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Never heard of such a thing.

Yes, plebes will hang their state flag outside of their room. You can contact your local state rep and they can usually get you one that has flown over the state capital. They can also be purchased any number of places. I think the normal size is around 3ft x 5ft.

There is a USMMA flag, used to sell it from the Academy and through one of the various state parents' associations, but I couldn't find it in my quick search.

    Prevention of Mutiny

Mutiny is one of the least known Mid traditions at the Yard. A Mutiny will be declared if an Upperclass Mid discovers there are more Plebes gathered in a room than may legally reside in that room (i.e., there are more Plebes in a room than there are racks). Upon an Upperclass Mid making the Declaration Of Mutiny, punishment for said Mutiny is then handed out. The punishment may be just about anything that the Upperclass Mid deems appropriate and may even include a trip to the shower, fully dressed, timed to occur approximately two minutes before any Formation.

If, however, an AMERICAN FLAG is present and prominently on display in the room where the Plebes are congregated, then a Mutiny cannot be declared. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that your Mid receive a small AMERICAN FLAG (4" x 6" with a small display stand) in one of your first Care Packages to be displayed in his or her room, so there can be no question that the Plebes in that room are not gathering to conspire in Mutiny.

Over the last few years, upperclass Mids advised that a state flag isn't a required item. However, most Plebe Candidates have one. (3x5) They hang them on the wall outside their door (depending on company rules). Our state Rep. sent us one that flew over the Capital building on the date that Indoc begin. We then took it to son on Parent's Weekend. It was hung outside his door. They are used for spirit missions sometimes but son said that if a certain state is needed, one can be found/borrowed. Don't be shy about contacting your state Rep. with the request.

I regret that I cannot recall where I'd purchased our KP flag. Its white with blue lettering. I believe that it was from one of the Parent Assoc. Chapters but that they'd run out of stock.

Most of the Mids do have state flags, and yes, that is the only decoration allowed in their rooms. My son's roomate hung his texas flag over the window so it shined with sun every day LOL.

The Colorado parent's Club used to sell the large Academy flags, but have been unable to purchase more as their supplier has closed. The Mid-atlantic parents assoc. is looking for a supplier to purchase Academy flags, but to date none found. We do, however, sell Academy garden flags and garden flag stakes.

If interested in the garden flag here is a link:

    Company colors

Does each Company have a certain color. I noticed my son's company now has a flag (blue) with a number 2. Can someone shed some light for me?

You will start seeing them in different color t shirts according to their respective companies. The flags will all be blue with the company numbers on them. I also noticed that the D.I.s are wearing light blue this year which is a departure from the yellow they wore in the past. The company officers are still in red

    4th Company

Last year 4th Company had maroon shirts with while lettering. It was funny for my son as it was the same colors as his high school.

I will be interested to see if they are the same this year.

    Hang in there!

First phone call will be gone in a instant

I believe my husband has always purchased the USMMA flag at the ships store. There is a # in the USMMA website to contact for the new store operations.

Each company does have a color, but the guidon (flag) will always be blue for every company.

The colors as I can remember them:

    1st Co: Green
    2nd Co: Blue
    Band Co: Black
3rd Co: (can't remember this one)
    4th Co: maroon

Thanks KP2001. So the guidon will be blue and the # on it is the Company? Is there anything that identifies their platoon? Plus once the Company flag is on the guidon does there company formation change? For example, guion is carried in the front center the rest of the company is in formation behind him and one lone midshipman in the back.
