I was wondering about the date for Acceptance day and Parade. They are the same thing, right? I know there is only an hour or so that you can see family, but my brother wants to see me then. Is it just the last day of BCT?

Yes, the Acceptance Parade is on Acceptance Day. The Parade represents the basic cadets being accepted into the cadet wing. I believe it will be on Aug 5th this year. I was able to spend about 3 hours with my son afterwards.

Yes, you're actual day of "Hell" is over on August 1st; (Saturday). You'll spend the next few days (Sun, Mon, Tues) getting settled into your new room, getting books/supplies for school, etc... On Wednesday; this year it's August 5th, you will have acceptance day. There is a parade and it's actually a very nice ceremony. And you will have an hour or two to visit. Basically right in that area. You can't really go anywhere.

Actually, what we, and MANY others did, was we parked at the field house. (Where basketball and hockey are played). Walked to the parade field. Watched the parade and acceptance ceremony. Then my son and his 2 room mates walked us back to the field house parking lot. They couldn't have THEIR cell phones yet, but they COULD USE a cell phone. So, between me, wife, daughter, and son's girl friend; we let a lot of the cadets use our cell phones and call their parents, family, etc... (It had been almost 2 months). Then, when we got back to the field house parking lot area; everyone pretty much had the same idea. Blankets and picnic baskets started popping up all over the place. We brought lots of of food that could be eaten cold and wasn't TOO MESSY on their nice service dress uniforms. Any family there visiting their son/daughter also made sure they tried and snagged up any cadet without someone there visiting. Anyway, this all lasted about 2 hours or so. Then the cadets worked their way back to the hill (The dorms and TZO); and they got ready for school to start the next day.

Now, while this was really a nice couple hours. Especially when we hadn't seen our son in 6+ weeks, we are fortunate because we only live 2 hours away. It could get expensive flying/driving to the academy. Now, for those not looking at a calendar, PARENT'S WEEKEND is only about 4 weeks later. And that''s a true 4 day weekend end that you can spend with your son/daughter (After the football game on Saturday). So if you can make it to acceptance day; that is great. Your son/daughter will really appreciate it. If you can only choose one of the 2 days because of your schedule/money/it's in the middle of the week/etc.... then definitely choose parent's weekend. You can take your son/daughter away and really spend so good time with them. Later.... mike.....

I don't think the days of Hell, ever stop at the Academy...At least that is what I have heard...and I have a very good source.

this place isnt so bad most of the time. all about perspective

i didn't think any of it was "hell". tough at times, yes, but as HNeedle said, it's all about perspective. and i can honestly say i love it here. for me, at least, that's a very good source. i know it changes from person to person, but if you're open to it you can enjoy it too

"Hell" is a figure of speech. In this reference, I'm talking about your last day of BCT. It is on Saturday. Then you have a few days off to prepare your room and get ready for school. Then the actual "A" day "Acceptance" day is on Wednesday the 5th. Just like, figuratively speaking, "Hell" comes back to haunt you in your last 40 days prior to "R" day (Recognition) day. Yes, it's all perspective. But don't get lost in the "Figure of Speech". later... mike....
