I'm currently a Sophomore in high school, and I'm trying to think of things to do right now during Covid to separate me from everybody, but I'm really finding that no ones doing nothing. I'm president of my own club in my school but all clubs got cancelled, and I'm top 3 on my track team and sports got cancelled. I already have planned what i'm going to do next summer which hopefully if everything aligns right and this Covid stuff ends I will hopefully be granted a $15,000 dollar scholarship paid by the Department of Defense to go to either Russia or china and spend my summer learning the language and interacting with the society. But my question is, are there any programs or things I can do to show leadership in times like these where there's nothing? I was also thinking about hosting a 5k dedicated to all soldiers who committed suicide due to PTSD, and all the profits that i receive from it will go to PTSD and suicide awareness for veterans organizations. But due to covid again, I can't do that right now. Please help if you can maybe answer, help, or guide me. Thanks.

You could still host a 5k but just make it a virtual one. My teens having been running virtual events since April after their sports were canceled.

Try googling "How to host a virtual 5k for charity". You'll have to do some research to see how feasible it is for you to do this. You might even be able to get a local sponsor(s) depending on how much work/effort you can put into it.

Our school uses Eventbrite.

Good luck! Have fun!

Excellent leadership opportunities in Sea Scouts BSA (seascout.org). Ages 14-21. Their top rank - Quartermaster - is much more rare than Eagle in traditional BSA. The USNA offshore sailing coach and one of the chaplains were Sea Scouts. They moved a lot of the meetings to zoom and continue to have outdoor activities with social distancing. Sailing, paddle sports, motor boats, scuba and coordination with Coast Guard Aux. (and separate contingents to Sea Base and Philmont).

Be creative. Covid may have created as many opportunities as it removed. Call your local elementary or middle school and see if you could coordinate an after school tutoring club for their students on zoom. Set up an online reading club for the k-2 graders where you help them read Dr suess or something. Start an online act/sat prep club where you do Kahn academy and other exercises together on zoom. Use the obstacle to reach stuff you wouldn't do otherwise. Don't waste the crisis.

If you're a sophomore you might not be old enough, but you could look into a job. I got a job with all the free time I have and am currently a senior in high school, and it's a great way to burn time- you can probably do up to thirty hours a week depending on the place.
