Adm. Lisa Franchetti Nominated to be Next CNO

Oh for goodness sake, when something happens for the first time it is worthy of noting. Of course her gender matters, if women routinely held that position it would not matter but they don't so it does. Why must everything be a conspiracy to you people

"Of course her gender matters". Your quote. If you are in a supervisory position I wish I could provide this quote to your male subordinates if they are ever dissatisfied with their ratings or promotions.

What "firsts" are worth extolling for a CNO at the POTUS level? Let's see: Black, Hispanic, Lesbian, Gay, male-to-female-trans, female-to-male trans, male-to-female-back-to-male-again trans, Muslim, Jewish, Asian, etc, etc, etc, etc. When you do the math there are limitless combinations. So how about we just assure the American people the best qualified are being chosen to protect our nation and lead our children into harm's way instead of making important appointments sound like it's done to appease a bunch of campus protesters?

Your argument concerns a civilian president’s use of the decision for political reasons in photo ops and with base. Certainly had he not done that, we would all agree that she appears well qualified for the position.

DS just sent me this: https://www.defensenews.com/naval/2...rience-made-her-bidens-pick-to-lead-the-navy/
The following stood out to me.
Happy DS and his shipmates have a qualified, experienced, and well thought of leader.

Foggo said Franchetti has the right character and experience for the job.

“She cares a lot about her people [and] you want a CNO that cares about the troops on the deckplate,” he said. “At the same time, you want a CNO that has experience in some tight, tough situations and some combat situations.”
Foggo said Franchetti has the right character and experience for the job.

Tyson, the first woman to command a carrier strike group, said that Biden selecting Franchetti to lead the service sends two messages to young women in the Navy or considering joining.

“First, a woman can do that; I can go as far as I want to go. And two, the Navy as an organization has the right values that they put the right person in the right place for the right reason,” Tyson said.

The first time she walks into a room in her new role the historic notes will be pointed out. The second time she walks in it's just going to be for work and the historic moment will have passed. At that point the qualifications will come to the front and she'll do the work or fail, just like anyone else.

Objecting to politicians making hay on a routine announcement is to fight gravity, it's just what they do. Crowing over an appointment that'll appeal to your voters, holding press conferences when reeling in a major appropriation for your district or completely blocking all promotions for unrelated issues is just what politicians do. If you want to object to the qualifications then say that, if you don't accept women in leadership say that, and if you see her playing the girl card a year from now then call that out, but so far she's built a strong career without any hint of those things.

President Biden nominated Admiral Franchetti for CNO over Admiral Samuel "Pappy" Paparo. The SECDEF originally recommended Admiral Paparo for CNO. He is now nominated to lead the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. With Taiwan's Prime Minister belief of a 2027 Chinese invasion and former deputy commander for U.S. Indo-Pacific Command prediction of a 2025 Chinese conflict, I can follow the thought process of why a Top Gun Graduate with 6000 flight hours in F-14, F-15, F/A-18 was nominated as the Indo-Pacific Commander. On a recent 60 Minutes interview, he said, "We are ready." I'm not a psychologist but I can read leadership traits as a result of a 30-year military service. This fellow is fearless and a winner.
And too honest and non PC to be CNO
