How often does the AFA Admissions Board meet?

I only ask because I am really hoping for an LOA. I have received one from USNA and one from USMA.

Is there any way to know how many applications they review each Monday?

And, if you were submit your application today, how many Monday's would pass before your application was reviewed?

And, if you were selected for a LOA, would it be made out that day?

I know that no one on the forum is on the Admissions Board (or so it has been posted), but I don't know if anyone's trial and error would produce any answers.

    Thanks!

Nobody knows how many go up on any given Monday. Same is true for how long it would take before it went up, since they can only get through X amt per session, if there is a bulk it could be a couple of weeks.
LOA's are determined on Monday, written and mailed out on Weds., that is why people start threads on Thurs, Fri and Sat, saying they got one. Also why I have said don't stalk the mailman, because chances are if it isn't in the mailbox on Sat, it will not show up until at least next Thursday.

PEOPLE need to understand for the AFA very very few LOA's come down, about 150-200, don't wrap yourself around the thought of getting an LOA. You have a 1 in 20 chance out of qualified applicants. 5 yrs from now when you walk into your 1st squadron, do you think anybody there is going to treat you special because you got an LOA to an SA? NO, and that is how you need to remember it when you wait by the mailbox.

My son's USAFA LoA was dated 10/13, arrived 10/17. Showed up on his USAFA online application 10/21. Doesn't show up on his DoDMERB file for USAFA, but his USNA LoA shows up on DoDMERB, but not on his USNA file. His USMA LoA doesn't showup online or on DoDMERB.

Out of curiosity, does your son know which academy he will be attending?

Pima, I'm not wanting to get an LOA just to say later on in life that I got one. I have a more serious reason for it. That's why I asked.
My reason is: I applied to USAFA and USNA. AFA is my first choice. USNA is my second. I received an LOA from USNA. If I don't receive one from USAFA, how should I approach my nominations? Should I ask for both? Or just one? I have applied for nomination to my two senators, representative, and vice president.

Pretty sure they meet on the 6th floor of the library. There were a bunch of colonels up there a couple days ago with a lot of folders. They had alot more folders and a lot more folders than the first time I saw them.

Just wanted to let you know my son's in the exact same position as you (USNA LOA, USAFA is first choice). His nomination packets were all due a week ago. He contacted all three offices trying to get help on this. I believe I posted this on another thread, but the two senators' offices in our state compare slates and will not nominate a candidate more than once. He was considering listing AF first with one and Navy with the other, but was told by both offices if he did that, THEY would choose which nom he got (assuming, of course, that he was one of their choices for one), and it might not be the one he'd choose.

However, his congressman's office (he was talking to the staffer in charge of nominations at each office) told him that if he was qualified (ie - one of the top 10) for each academy, that he would get both. They told him that they prefer not to see more than two choices (just looking for the "free" education). He's really hoping that this turns out to be that case - he went ahead and listed AF as #1 on all of them and Navy as number 2, but in his cover letter to the Congressman he explained why he was requesting nominations to both AF and Navy. So now he's hoping he gets an AF one from one of the two senators (doesn't know how competitive he is there) and an AF and Navy one from his congressman (has a bit more confidence of getting them there).

I also find it frustrating all the people who say "relax, no big deal, no one cares if you got an LOA". Yes, a year from now, I promise he won't care any more if he had an LOA. But it sure would make life easier for the next 5 months if he did!

    Good luck!

So, would my best bet be to contact my Congressman and Senators? I listed AFA as my first choice and USNA as my second choice on my nomination applications. If I contact them, do I ask how they approach multiple nominations? I just hate being in this situation, because I have no idea how I will handle it come interview time... I would reallybe happy getting a nomination to both. Then I could have a chance at my number one choice but still have a for-sure backup.

The LOA can get tricky if you get one to your second (or third) choice and not to your first.
I think when you request a nomination you should request your first choice school - LOA or not. This is where you want to go - be honest and firm. Shoot for your number one.

    What happens if:
You get an LOA/nom but not an appt to your #1 and don't get a nom to your 2nd choice LOA school? Jump through the hoops - apply for all noms including VP (for each school) and you will still get an appointment. The academy(ies) who offer you an LOA want you - alot. They will get you admitted if you applied for a nom and fail to receive one.

Yeah... that the trouble I have been having. I appreciate everyone on here who has provided advice to me. So, does anyone know this question... I submitted my final piece of paperwork, CFA, to AFA at the end of August. Would my file have went up to the board by now? Or is it in no order relative to who gets theirs done?

Honestly, I think you should call the admissions office up at the AFA. Get a hold of the officer who is handling your application and have a conversation. This person is the only person who can tell you the status of your application.
Don't be afraid to incorporate your LOA's to Army and Navy in the conversation.

As JAM said, you definitely should call. From the time your provide the "FINAL" whatever it is to make your file complete, can sometimes take up to a week, maybe a few day more, to have your file ready to meet the board. The admission/counselor department will go through your file to ensure no typos; that everything in fact is there; that you have the most current SAT/ACT/Transcripts/etc... in there, etc... Depending on how many applications are being finalized, determines how many days. But if your file was completed in August, AND YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION SAYS COMPLETE, then it definitely has been in front of the board. That was 2 months ago. Now, if your online application doesn't say "COMPLETE" you have a problem and need to get on the phone with the counselor. But either way, you can call your counselor and ask 1) My file is 100% complete; right? 2) Has my file gone in front of the board yet? Best of luck. mike.....
