I was wondering if their was anything that you guys could tell me that could help me get through USMAPS successfully. I did not receive a nomination at all from my senators so I need to get that. I will be retaking my SAT and ACT at USMAPS. Any tips are useful on when to start my nomination process again etc. Please reply!

You can receive a USMAPS appointment without a nomination?

I'm with USMAT, I thought you had to be qualified overall with low academic standing along with a Nom to be appointed to USMAPS.

The one real advice that I can tell you is to stay focused....oh, and to manage your time wisely. You get a lot more free time at the U than you do at USMA so I would manage your time wisely. USMAPS is a great opportunity to fix yourself up before you get to the academy (academically, physically, and mentally). Take advantage of AI sessions and study groups too. As far as prepping for SAT/ACT, I would suggest taking advantage of the prep book they are gonna give you. You do test prep in class, but it's not enough to really prepare you for it. So if you really want to raise your scores try to find different resources that can help you.

One other advice I can give you is to have fun. Go out a few weekends with friends, join a club, and enjoy life before you enter USMA. That doesn't mean go do stupid things though, because you'll be representing not only USMAPS, but also USMA and most importantly the Army. So, as long as you have your stuff together, don't stress and have fun.

When it comes to nominations, fill out an application for one during the first semester. They will let you guys know when it is a good time to start the nom applications. I hope some of this helps!

One of my friends didn't receive a nom from her senators either. I believe she said that USMA nominated her because she didn't receive one.

I have heard of USMA distributing the VP-Nom to those candidates that they really want, but didn't receive a nom from their members of Congress.

Candidates do not require a nomination to be selected for USMAPS. I believe that USMA likes candidates to have achieved one as it shows they could achieve one if they enter USMAPS, but that is just conjecture.

At USMAPS you will have to apply for all nominations available to you. If you do not receive a congressional nomination, USMA might use Reserve Army nominations for you (Candidates at USMAPS who were not enlisted before become "Invitational Reservists" while at USMAPS). This will only happen if there are Reserve Army slots available as the Reserves and National Guard are starting to recruit heavily in their ranks for USMA.

How likely is that I will get a nomination while at USMAPS? I'm guessing pretty likely considering I am actually attending USMAPS. It shows that I have the drive to do well in USMA. Will a congressman see this and say "this kid is definitely getting a nom" ?

    Not necessarily.

As it always goes with these academies, nothing is for certain. You should not only do well in order to seek a nomination, but do well in order to seek an appointment. Nominations are great, but if you cannot stand up academically to admissions even after attending USMAPS then there is no guarantee you will receive an appointment. And a nomination without an appointment is ultimately useless. The reality of the situation at USMAPS is that you will encounter a lot of competitive candidates, as well as drafted athletes. You will be fighting for one of ~200 spots available to USMAPS applicants every year, some of which will be filled by these athletes by default.

The way it works for NAPS , is you can receive a nomination from Congress or VP and other ways. But since you have to join the naval reserves before you show up to NAPS you can also receive a service nom. There aren't any set limits of how many service noms. Unlimited. So u always can get a service nom. Of course you have to graduate from NAPS , and not screws up. The SA is yours to lose.

So your saying that when I graduate USMAPS I will get a service nomination?

    Not so with USMAPS.
There are only 85 NG/Reserve slots.
USMAPS prepsters seek all noms they are eligible for and they are eligible for the NG/Reserve nom.
