AFROTC- AFSC's released soon?

I got 62E1C first pick.
Where do you want to go? I got 62E as well, even though I didn't want it...
Still deciding if I want to try for AFIT. if I don't get it I would like to go to Rome NY if we still can.

What shred did you get?

I'm electrical so I got the E shred... thankfully that one has quite a few more bases as options, it looks like. Wright Patt is great, but after going to school here I'm hoping to travel a little bit if possible.

And hey, AFIT is definitely an awesome deal if you're ready for more school! I've got a friend who's a 62E(1M, I think) doing his masters here now.

I've heard late December, so lets hope for that!

Last year it was around New Years.

Last year it was Christmas Eve. My commander said hopefully before Christmas. We'll see whenever they decide to release it....

Let's not get our hopes up.. We saw how long this AFSC selection took..

Take everything with a grain of salt.. but still hope for the best!! Before Christmas would be great! What were your base selections?

Mine were Germany, Hawaii, Scott, Barksdale, Davis Monthan and Shaw

I got 64P. And I agree, if our AFSCs were a bit late, we may be waiting well into January for bases.

Mine are as follows: Lakenheath, Aviano, Hickam, Peterson, Elmendorf, and Randolph.

Hoping for any one of them.

Man, those are some good options!

My top 6 are Peterson, Schriever, Buckley, Hill, Vandenberg, and Eglin. I'd be happy with any of them!

Just a curiosity question, are those the only bases you can be assigned to?
~ Sorry, I am ignorant on where they can send you for that AFSC.

If not, than I think you might be lucky to get anyone of those bases because all of them are what I would call dream assignments....except maybe Lakenheath.

Yeah, I just would like one of them. I was originally given 38P but was given 64P. Both have similar bases.

And the list is huge for this AFSC. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst location.

I hope for you the best, but I would not bet on them because I think everyone in your AFSC will be like you and place them on the top of their lists.
~ I could also see Eglin, McDill, Langley being on many cadets dream sheet.

Again, I don't know a lot about that career field, but let's assume there is only 1 O1/2 slot at each of those bases. Timing will be the issue. Let's say 3 of your 6 will have an opening, however, if 30 of your yr group all placed those 3 on their dream sheet, the odds are not high of getting one of them.
~ IE when we were at the 90th (Elmendorf) for the Strike Eagle, most of the fliers had done a bad deal prior to getting that good deal. The 1st time we saw a Lt. was after being there for @18 months.

Like I said I can see maybe Lakenheath because from a USAFE assignment I don't see it as high as Aviano or Ramstein. Lakenheath is called Little America. The base is amazing from an amenities aspect (great BX and commissary), plus Mildenhall is right next door (AMC) so you can do a lot of hops.
~ However, other than that it is not in as great of a location like Ramstein and Aviano. London is not right down the road.

I can also see Randolph being a chance because I would think being HQ and such a large base they would have more openings than a base like Elmendorf where they only have 5K members and a majority of them are tied to flying side.
~ Yet, Randolph being in San Antonio, and not a place like Mt. Home Idaho, I can also see many putting it on their dream sheet.

That being said, bases like Alamogordo, Minot, McGuire, Dover, etc. if as you say the list is huge, and they have openings, well someone has to go there.

In the end a tour is what you make of it.
~ Oh My God No Alamogordo at 1st glance feels like a bad deal, but you can have fun there....you just need to be willing to accept you will have to drive to experience it.
~ Seymour Johnson is not a dream base, but if you like the beach than it is 45-60 minutes a way. Raleigh is the same distance.
~ McGuire is in the Pine Barrons. Nothing exists in that area right out of the gate like Randolph, but it is 45 minutes into Philly, the Jersey Shore or @ 90 into Manhattan. Less than 3 hrs from DC, depending on traffic.
~ Mt. Home is the hub of Elmore County. If the base closed the town would too. However, Boise is 50 miles away, and Boise is a great city. If you are an outdoor type than you will love being there because of Snake River.

Just saying, wherever they send you, even at 1st glance it looks like it will suck, it can be a lot of fun.
~ DS went to Laughlin for UPT...aka Hell Rio. That base literally is in the land of nowhere. However, because it is in the middle of nowhere, the students hung together outside of work during the weekends. They created bonds. ~Randolph is a big city, it would be like being stationed at the Pentagon. People are spread all over the place distance wise. You might live 30 mins. south of the base, and others live 30 mins. north. That means you live an hr a way from each other... going to someones house for a BBQ means an hr trip one way.

DS is at Dyess now. Abilene is not a happening town for 22 yr olds. Yet, like Laughlin and San Antonio, it is about 2 1/2 hrs from Dallas, hence, on weekends you can escape to a big city and have fun.

They reclassified you too? I was originally given 15W1 and just got reclassified to 13S1 this morning.

I had to submit my base preferences ASAP for my new AFSC since they're being released soon.

so last we heard was mid to late january... that would be past the 30 days from submittal that they had told us originally. anybody else heard otherwise?
