AFROTC EA due date

Are they telling you today or still waiting until tomorrow? They wouldn't even tell us how many made it, everything's going down tomorrow after our final LLAB. Moral is pretty low here too, many are talking about not bothering going to PT tomorrow morning.

The numbers weren't suppose to be revealed to us. Someone in the Chain slipped up. But we are hoping they tell us tomorrow, our Capt had a death in the family and had to take emergency leave and she wants to be the one that tell us

I'm not sure whether the CoCs that are offering 500s THIS year are aware of what happened nationally with the 500s from last year. I realize that this forum is only a very small snapshot of what the national picture might look like....but I doubt anyone looking at some of these results would recommend the 500 path.

Point well made, however as PIMA said, with the binge / purge or feast / famine cycles, if you REALLY want to be an AFO vs another branch, taking a shot via a 500 is an option. Maybe the kid gets lucky and there is a binge next year and he gets his dream.
Would like to hear about other options to becoming an AFO, OCS/OTS is one, any others?

Aglages,

I don't disagree with you. I am not sure I would have said to DS stick it out one more :confused:year. Than again DS was non-tech and scholarship.

If he was able to keep the scholarship as a 500, financially we probably would have said stick out one more year, BUT use that year to get PLAN B in place if not selected....including paying for college.

True....but at least he would have been applying for "rated" which would have helped his chances.

Unfortunately not an option. I believe they lose their scholarships even if they come back as a 500. At least that was true in my daughter's Detachment.

Usually this binge / purge or feast / famine cycles applies over a longer period of time....like a decade. Where there is a war and the military "feasts" and then a period like we are currently experiencing where they are "purging". Not sure if I'd count on next year being a feast year with RIFs still in full swing and a military budget that is uncertain at best.

No argument here. You miss 100% of all the shots you don't take. If you and your son can afford an extra year of college and he can handle the emotional aspects and stress of attempting this again....go for it. I sincerely wish you the best of luck!

I can respect that, but if she's not back by tomorrow I hope they will be kind enough to still let you know then. I think it's good that she wants to be able to look you all in the eye and tell you herself, but to make the 200s wait until friday or even next week, when most of their peers have been notified Tuesday and the rest will be notified by Thursday, would be beyond cruel and not worth the small gesture of having that particular Capt. tell you. The day not going by as fast as I would like lol, but tomorrow is packed so it should streak by.

This feels like 2 years ago when I was waiting for that AFROTC scholarship. I was just a big ball of nerves, finally had to ban myself from listening to one of my favorite songs at the time, "What Hurts The Most" by Rascal Flatts, because the words were starting to hit home just a little to hard. I know it's about a relationship, but there were too many parallels there, didn't want that to become my reality with AFROTC. As soon as I got that scholarship though that was the first song I blasted on the way home, windows down, singing my heart out lol. Had to ban the song again given recent events, but I left it all on the table just like last time, did everything the AF asked of me and more so I'm hoping to be able to be able to blast it again tomorrow :thumb:. Good luck to you and your comrades, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

The worst part was/is being at PT this morning and looking at my amazing group of 200s and knowing half of use wont be at PT on Friday. It was a difficult morning so far and I dont see it getting any better.

6/14

We had 14 cadets left in our 200 class. 2 that were definitely not eligible and 2 that were most likely not going to get one because minor errors in EA packages. Out of the 6 that made it, 4 were rated (one was already repeating his 200 year), and the other 2 were non tech, non rated (but one is going for special forces and the other JAG.) It was brutal this year. One scholarship cadet in the top third didn't get an EA as well as a prior enlistee who was at the very top of the class with great stats all across the board (but he was non tech non rated.) It really sucked this year but keep your heads up and try again if this is truly your dream! Congrats to those who made it, I'll see you at Maxwell. To those who didn't, my deepest condolences but know that you are all awesome and keep working hard.

You should still got to pt and work hard. You are setting the mood for the 100's. 200's lead the way. We found out 8am tomorrow.

Oh, I will definitely be there. Been trying to convince a couple buddies who are really convinced now that they didn't make it not to skip. It's already a hard week with finals coming up so I may be losing that battle, guess I'll see tomorrow morning. Some don't want to go to LLAB either, but as this will be the single most important LLAB of the semester, their talk is just that. Nobody, from any class, will miss tomorrow's announcement, they're just as anxious to see which ones of us make it as we are.

First off Congrats for getting an EA.
My DS is one who did not, he was tech and rated, it's really his dream. I am curious about the 1 of your Det who was repeating, AS500? Do you have any particulars about that person and what they needed to improve? My DS is considering that option because he wants it so bad.

No EA for me either.

any word about your DS, ERAU?

NO EA for my Matt....

The crazy thing is that he was so upbeat when he called to tell me that I thought that he was teasing me...

He was asked if he wanted to return as a 500. He is considering the option especially since he is on a 4 1/2 - 5 yr plan....

However my DS is not on a AFROTC scholarship and his plan B is so much more secure to his future as well as the purse strings.

At $15,000/semester ....tuition at ERAU, even with some scholarship money can accumulate debt rather quickly.

He is considering all his options before his meeting Friday with his CoC...

While an officer in the AF was his first choice....he was not looking for a pilot slot....His plan B still results in becoming an officer in the US Military...

I believe that another poster here said it best....

It's best to look at NOT getting an EA as a door closing......BUT look at it as a bunch of other doors opening....

It's obvious to me that is exactly what my DS is doing....By not getting an EA ...the number of options that he now has available to him.

I honestly believe that while this heart wanted an EA......his head probably was telling him that in his situation....not getting one was not such a bad thing...

GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES to ALL..

Don't forget your sunblock at Max......

It was just the GPA requirement. But many are repeating (hopefully.) We had great cadets but honestly it was just the fact that most were non tech non rated. I was non tech and rated. It's just unfortunate how it happened this year with them worrying about budget cuts. Improving on everything is honestly the only thing anyone can try to do. Good luck to him though! Just don't give up.

Thank you..

I am curious if there was a higher percentage this year of cadets that are on the 4 1/2 - 5 year plan NOT getting EA's than in past years....or if the numbers were consistent with other years...

I realize though it's a lot easier for members to post the good new....than it is the bad news....

I can't answer that question - my son was the only 5 year guy in his group I believe - nationally it's a good question - however, the most critical majors for the USAF such as CE, EE, and other STEM disciplines tend to be 5 year programs so I'm not sure there was a decrease in selection just because they were 5 year programmers - I think the aggregate for selection was applied across the board and 5 year programmers may even had a slight advantage since they aren't commissioning till 17' JMHO though.

GPA requirement? Is there are hard requirement? If so what is it for Tech and non Tech? Thanks

Thanks for the info. Can I ask what your source was for the information? Also curious if there is data for commander's ranking and AFOQT.
