AFROTC results early!

I got an Email from AFROTC just yesterday as well. It seems to me that AFROTC sends out the Emails promptly the date of which applicants are notified if they got the offer or not. There is one thing that concerns me about the Email. Although the Email said that I was still in the running for a scholarship offer, it said that the next board wasn't until March. If I am not mistaken then I thought the next board was in two months from now in January. I hope I don't have to wait until March for the next board because I'm pretty sure that's the last board there.

I double checked, the email we got over a week ago is identical to the one we got yesterday and also mentioned the March board and not a January board. Does AFROTC not do an order of merit list or roll you over into all of their boards?

AFROTC in the past few years changed the system. If not picked up on the 1st board you meet and you are considered still competitive they will roll you over to the last board in March. Typically they have 2 boards in March. The last board date is for those rolled over. Thus, you will not be reboarded for Jan. or the 1st board date in March, just the very last board.

Not everyone will get rolled over so take that as a positive aspect.

I must be one of the lucky ones to be rolled over to the last board date. I didn't know that some applications would never get the chance to get re-boarded ever again now that you said it. I am grateful that I am still considered competitive and that I did get rolled over to the last board. It's one last chance I have left until I hear a final yay or nay from HQ AFROTC. My scholarship status was stated as Re-boarded so that means I have been rolled over to the next board(the last AFROTC board) in March, correct, assuming all this?

That was what they have done for the last 2 yrs. Before that they would either say yeah, nay or reboard for the next board (i.e Jan).

What you need to understand is they have a limited pot of gold, and some candidates float between a type 1 or 2, a type 2 or a type 7, and a type 7 or nothing, thus they want to see a larger pool of candidates before they decide on which type of scholarship, or no scholarship will be offered.

I don't know if your son has his colleges picked out but just an FYI, for Type 7's Boston U will pay half of first year's tuition and then top off the remaining years.

Interesting. He would prefer BU over Univ. of Delaware. It was actually on his Top 5 list. I'll have to reach out to BU to see how that works. Parent/BU pays 1st year, then AF/BU pay the next 3 years?

As of last year, they were paying half of the first year's tuition and then topping off years 2-4 for three year awards. I'm assuming they haven't changed it. I'll be curious as to what you hear. Just don't let your son know that BU was rated the hardest school to get an A at.
