Hello all, I recently received my type 1 AFROTC national scholarship, and I am looking into potentially tracking for STO or TACPO. Does anyone have any statistics about how many slots AFROTC gets a year to commission 2nd LTs into Special Tactics? Additionally, I know some schools like Embry Riddle have Special Tactics training clubs. Can anyone please find me a list of other colleges that have something similar? Or if anyone knows what school (besides USAFA) sends the most people to try out for STO, that would also be much appreciated. Thank you all.

Det 875 at Virginia Tech has a special operations prep team and they've commissioned quite a few AF special ops 2d Lts over the past few years. It's also inherently a "joint" style of training at VT due to the Corps of Cadets so you can work with the Army Ranger prep teams and Marines on the daily and prep for those special programs as well. I know Det 330 at University of Maryland also has a similar program, but I'm not sure how many they've commissioned. It's a super challenging and selective process though, but if you're motivated enough and willing to put the early mornings and work in, I'm sure you'll do fine. Congrats on the scholarship.

Outside of the service academies, the SMCs are likely to offer you the most options for additional preparation for a special operations branch.. The Citadel has the following military organizations/Teams that cadets can join that are oriented to special operations. Bonus is that if you bring a national ROTC scholarship to The Citadel, you are eligible for a room and board waiver in addition to any other merit or financial need aid you receive:

Cordell Ranger Airborne Club
Citadel Marine Raiders
Pre-SEAL Team
Ranger Challenge Team
