    Has anyone heard about their acceptances for AIM? Online it said that they would be reviewing candidates in April and final selections would be at the end of April or early May.

    I was selected for NASS and was wondering how my chances are for the USCGA and AIM. I have a 4.0, 50 hours of community service, four year varsity letter winner and three year captain of the soccer team, four time national qualifier for the ILYA national quarterfinals for sailing, I was just elected my fourth term as class president, and I was also just elected president of my schools student council.

    Theres much more that I'm involved in and everything, but I really want to get into the USCGA if possible. It is definitely my first choice! Thanks in advance for your help :)

    Thank you. Will they notify us via email then instead of mail?

    Anybody have any idea from past years if May 15th means 12:01am or 9:00am or 5:00pm?

    Thanks

    Likewise. Best of luck to the both of you, hoping for a 2/2 on Summer Seminars/Sessions here. We'll see how it turns out, yeah?

    AIM Application Status updated

    Greetings;
    Just checked the website online application status for my DS... got the equivelant of the TWE... as we used to say in the1980's: "no dice". There was a very nicely worded letter which stated that they had a pool (after the review process), but that he was not selected in the lottery.

    "Dear xyz,
    Thank you for applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) Program. I'm pleased to let you know the review committee was impressed with your record, finding you among a select group of students well qualified to attend AIM. Unfortunately, we were not able to offer a spot to all of the students with your qualifications. Therefore, we instituted a lottery to choose among the best qualified applications. Although you faried well in the review process, and your name was submitted to this pool, you were not selected in the lottery."

    "Because you have great potential for admission next year, I would like to invite you to participate in an overnight visit this fall "Cadet for A Day", as part of a special program for students we condiser to be strong potential applications to the Class of 2017. Space is limited to 40 students per week. Dates in the September thru mid December timeframe will be provided in August of 2012. Your visit will begin on Thursday at 11:00am and ends on Friday at 11:00am. You will be paired up with a cadet escort to attend classes, observe sports practice, and experience all aspects of the Academy life first-hand! Registration will be available on our website (www.uscga.edu) in early August so mark your calendars and check your email for updated program information."

    Not sure if we can swing a quick trip out east (we are in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes and lots of scared fish...). So, the Cadet for A Day might not work out for us. DS also wants to do an overnight at Iowa State University with the Air Force ROTC detachment there (Cy for a Day program). That is do-able since it is only a 3 hour drive one way.

    DS will certainly be applying to the CGA along with USMA, AFA, AFROTC, NROTC, AROTC.

    Best of luck for other AIM 2012 applicants. Hope you had better luck than DS did with the lottery.

    2/2. Guess I got pulled in the lottery. I'd really be interested to see who else will be attending. Two people from my school, myself included, were selected for the Third Session. I'm looking forward to it!

    Last year when I went, we didn't swim at all. The swimsuits were used for showers if you didn't feel comfortable around other AIMsters.

    I did AIM back in 2008...we used the swimsuits for a Damage Control activity. I'm not sure if they still do it or not but it was this mobile simulator with multiple pipes and tanks that had leaks in it. You were given tools and then the simulator started flooding...you were supposed to somehow stop the leaks. That's the only thing we used the swimsuits for.

    But hey, things could change. Besides, we wouldn't want to tell you everything that's going to happen...its no fun that way! (Especially since I'm an AIM cadre) :biggrin:
