His is just an update, because he will contract in August 2012, so it is still valid.
I am only assuming, but I would think it is like the form all cadets slotted for SFT will get. Basically, they want just a routine exam, and make sure every shot is current. Many times, we as parents, forget once they leave for college that shots need boosters. Our DS had to get 3 shots for his SFT because between his DoDMERB exam and SFT, his booster for tetanus was missed, his booster for mennococal was needed, and they had now required H1N1.
He can do it at the clinic. Now because we both have Hokie children, and our DD went to the clinic, BEWARE. VT does not make your child pay at the time of the visit, instead they charge it to their account. Come registration or when classroom assignments come out they will lock the account if you have not paid it. We did not know of this and DD freaked, I called and they said she had an $18 balance for a clinic visit. They didn't even use her insurance, so this is why we never questioned the no bill from them issue. Just keep tabs on that if he goes to the clinic.
What I was talking about regarding the DoDMERB is many candidates will do this exam in the summer of their rising sr. yr. Assume they did it Aug 31, 2010, but now they will return to school Sept 1st, take the PT Sept 6th, and contract the 7th. If the unit did not realize they missed the date by 1 week, the money will be floating in cyberspace. By the time they figure out, they will be "locked" by the school for registering the spring semester, and you may have to find the money to unlock their account.
You also are faced with an additional burden, like you, our DD is 3 hrs from home, she has no car to get to the DoDMERB doc assigned, plus has an academic schedule. You may be running around trying to figure out times, docs, etc.
If you know your child did the physical in the summer of their rising sr yr in HS., talk to the unit now, and start planning to get a new DoDMERB done over the summer.
Every yr. believe it or not, there is one poster here who finds this out the hard way. I am going to assume there will be less of them for AFROTC now, because the AF changed the system regarding AFA candidates. Before as soon as you cleared the PCQ, and became an applicant you were sent for the exam. DS did his in mid-July. Now, due to cost saving issues, they wait until the applicant is a candidate, or they at least believe will become a candidate, so many are doing it in late fall/early winter like your DS. It might also be because for AFROTC an Type 2 3 yrs they have realized this was an issue too.
