Sorry if this has been posted before, I've skimmed through and haven't spotted it, so here goes:
I recently went through the whole DoDMERB process. I've been (and still am) nervous about my application as I checked yes to two potentially DQ'ing items.
1) Was a history of headaches. About 5 years ago, I went to my doctor after experiencing headaches (during about a month period). Nothing was diagnosed, he just recommended that I change my diet and perhaps see a chiropractor. As far as I can remember, nothing was prescribed (and if it was, I didn't take it. I refuse to take any type of medication, even aspirin, unless it's my absolute last option). I've read around and heard that headaches/migraines are a DQ if they've occurred within the last 3 years. Since that time, 5 years ago, I have not had any reoccurrence. Should I be concerned about a possible remedial/DQ? I filled out the DoDMETS headache questionnaire already, indicating pretty much everything stated above, and that was included in my original packet sent to the DoD.
2) I indicated yes for a history of fainting. I occasionally faint when having a needle injected into me, example: giving blood. It's not all the time, but sometimes. When my DoDMERB physician asked, I explained and she wrote down 'vasovagal syncope'. Should I be worried about this as well?
Lastly, I checked the status of my DoDMERB application today, and it says the following:
27-SEP-12 Application Added
27-SEP-12 Date applicant entered into DoDMERB system
08-NOV-12 Actual date of exam
16-NOV-12 Date exam reviewed
16-NOV-12 Date exam received at DoDMERB
16-NOV-12 Medical data entry
At the top, it says:
Agency: US Air Force CSB
Cycle Year:2012
Current Medical Status:Qualified
Does this mean, that despite the two yeses, I've been qualified? Or is everyone termed qualified until the application is reviewed, and then your status changes from qualified? It doesn't say my application was reviewed (just the exam, is that the same thing?), so that makes me think that this isn't a real qualification, and I don't want to get my hopes up too soon.
I'm an AS250 cadet, heading into FTP and selection next semester. The Air Force is absolutely something I want to do, and would be devastated if I get DQ'd. My det. is pretty large this semester (we gained about 100 more cadets than last semester), and am not certain that they would request a waiver if need be. Also, next week, the Cadre are sending in their nominations for scholarships, which require and approved DoDMERB. So, I hope this 'qualified' status is real, for potential scholarship, and my future in the AF!
Any insight would be majorly helpful and greatly appreciated. I've been having mini-heart attacks since I started the DoDMERB process. Can't wait until it is completely over (pending, hopefully, good results)!
