Answers for: Turnbacks, Reapplicants, AFROTC, and NCAA prospects

Great story! I have a similar story...also applied to USAFA for both classes of 2016 and 2017 and was denied twice. However, I pursued AFROTC instead and commissioned in 2016. Moral of the story is if you really want to commission and pursue it, there’s a way.

Hi Nilet,

I was medically turned back after an injury in BCT last Summer. I’m still waiting on the new appointment to pop up on my portal. Just a few questions:

1) Do you have any clue when I’m supposed to receive this appointment?

2) Will I be placed back into my original squadron or do they switch it up?

I know these are harder questions to answer, but thanks for reaching out to us!
Badger,

1) Not sure. The admissions office is on its own schedule, and any rumors you hear about timelines that they have are likely just - rumors.

2) You will be reassigned to a new squadron. When I worked BCT this summer, there were several people who were in this situation, and although some of your issued items may have your original BCT squadron on them, you will not be in the same squadron - it'll get figured out upon your arrival.

Good luck going forward, and please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you!

I was wondering after I heard that my friend’s roommate was placed in his original this year after being turned back in BCT 2016. Is this just rare?

Badger,

Yeah that is rare, in fact I haven't heard of that before as they typically try to deconflict any prior relationship someone may have had as best as they can.

I'd like to revive this thread for any who may be interested in the topics above (see page 1 post for complete list). I try to do this at least once per year.

In addition to the experiences listed above - I commissioned in May of 2018, and attended SUPT at Laughlin AFB. I dropped my aircraft in September of this year, and will be attending IFF next week. Love to answer any questions you all may have!
