Anti-Islam film protests spread across Middle East

One would think that even the most brain washed individual would still be able to determine between opinion, facts, and a person's right to simply speak. I realize that many of these "Societies" don't believe in the individual. But even they have to realize that not everyone believes as they do. Religious differences have been happening since the cave-man.

It seems you can tell a christian that their religion is a joke, and they simply blow it off. You can tell a Jewish believer that the Torah is make believe and they turn and walk away. You can tell a Buddhist that their god isn't real, and they simply go in one ear and out the other. Same can be said for just about any religion. Except of course the Muslim religion. You say anything derogatory and they want to start a war and kill someone. And no, it's not just a small group in the middle east. Others may not want to start a war, but they "Claim" to be highly offended and insulted.

So, because they get offended, we have to make sure we are all politically correct and not say anything that might be considered offensive. But because we don't get "As offended", we're suppose to put up with other's disrespect. People need to get over it. Every day, something or someone is going to offend someone. SO WHAT!!! I'm sure I've offended a person or two on this forum. Get over it. I have. I don't lose any sleep over it.

But when I hear people say they are "Offended"; no matter what the reason; it simply makes me respect them that much less. No matter what a person's beliefs, religion, values, or morals; there is absolutely no reason to ever be offended. Especially by words that are simply opinions. It's not like any prophet, God, messiah, etc... is going to stop loving or interacting with their people because some "non-believer" said something negative. Sorry, but I have zero respect for these protesters.

This is what their culture has socialized them to do. Very typical of closed societies that use the defense of their belief system to demonize outsider experiences. Cultures that fear assimilation by another will up the ante (i.e. make a life and death matter of) on personal types of things. Issues of trust exist within and outwards in these cultures. Religion and relations between the sexes are typical flash points that show up.

Cultures only grow out of these behaviors when they get enough external exposures that give that plurality of belief systems that don't allow one system to dominate thought and defeat outside challenges.

All the examples you cite are cultures that have had to absorb parts of others over the centuries.

And we aren't that far removed from these types of outrage reactions to personal challenges... 250 years ago we still had pistol duels over some (by today's standard) are some trivial issues.

Not a problem that is going to be solved in less than 3 generations of steady exposure to outside thought and value systems.

lol ... "They" have been saying this for the past several thousands of years. Not until the 2nd coming ... :thumb: Maybe all we need's one more term!:rolleyes::eek:

Goaliedad; most of my questions were rhetorical. I've lived/worked in 14 countries. Including the middle east. Venting mostly from frustration. Most of the people in these countries are not that ignorant. But just like our politicians and special interests prey on the poor, elderly, and the ignorant; so do many of these countries.

I didn't say they were ignorant, just socialized to react in such a way. People's belief systems are not necessarily a product of their intellect. If there is a degree of ignorance, it is not of thought but of lack of exposure to outside cultures and mores. What many of the people of these countries see is carefully selected for them.

The shame about our country is that the ignorance is not due to a lack of opportunity to learn, but the fact that the special interests so monopolize the easily accessible media with their message. I guess it doesn't help that our education system is more about optimizing test scores than actual reasoning, but that is an entirely different subject for a much longer thread.

If literacy rates are any indication of ignorance, then, yes, many many people (a majority) are ignorant.

They have perfected the art of stone throwing, at least until tear gas is introduced.

Riddle me this-
if some dude in Canada made this movie - would there be all of these protests?

Some just want an excuse to spew hatred towards the US.

I think they're just looking for an excuse. They attacked the German embassy too... they had no connection.

They also Blew up a bus of South African aviation workers in Afganistan, claiming it was in response to the "Film". They can't even get the nationalities correct in who they are attacking anymore.

An old radio show: Paraphrase.

Islamic Guest: Islam gave to the West great strides in Mathematics, Astrology, Architecture, Medicine and Philosophy.

Host: What have they done for the last thousand years?

Of course, I remember back while our embassy in Tehran was the home of hostage taking many Archie Bunker types shouting "Kill the Arabs", which of course manages to insult 2 different peoples for different reasons.

In our defense, I can't say though that we were looking for an excuse to kill people before that act...

Not helpful to dis two billion people, millions of whom live in our country.

The suicide-bombing murder of the South African aviation workers in Kabul is not easily understood by the term "they." It almost certainly has nothing to do with the above-mentioned movie - even if the perpetrators say it did.

The group reportedly claiming responsibility is Hezb-e-Islami, a fundamentalist group which has traditionally not been affiliated with the Taliban. Its leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, was Prime Minister of the country twice during the post-Soviet pre-Taliban days, the latter time in 1996 when he had a power-sharing arrangement with the then-President, Burnahuddin Rabbani. After fleeing Afghanistan in 1997, Hekmatyar fled to Iran and was supposedly of assistance to bin Laden. After September 11, pressure from the US led the Iranians to expel him.

The 71 year old Rabbani was assassinated by the Taliban on September 20, 2011 in a suicide-bombing. Rabbani's son is reportedly involved in negotiating peace with the Taliban. Hekmatyar has supposedly had discussions with Karzai's government about ending his resistance to it.

Simple, huh?

The Afghans and the Pakistanis, and probably, the Iranians, are getting ready for the departure of the U.S. and its NATO allies, as also are the factions within Afghanistan. The US involvement in the region dates back to the 1950s, when we befriended Pakistan, and particularly its military, because it was a natural ally against the Soviet Union. At that time India was a leader of the nonaligned nations but was friendly to the Soviets. The CIA's U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers and shot down by the Soviets in 1960 took off from a U.S. controlled base in Peshawar, Pakistan.

I am not "dissing" any religion or belief or people. Where is the outrage for the murder of innocent civilians from the millions who live in our country under the protection of our Constitution. Haven't heard a US Imam decry the murderous outrages committed in the name of religious beliefs.

Hekmatyar has supposedly had discussions with Karzai's government about ending his resistance to it.

As long as Mullah Omar, and Sirajuddin Haqqani have influence, these discussions won't get very far.

You are oh so right, there is nothing at all simple about any of this.

Why is violence the only way for the muslims we see on the news to express their views? I don't know, maybe attempting formal parley would show the world that they can be civilized and they don't need to take thousands of lives to express their religion.

Where do they get all the American Flags? China must be making a fortune on the sales!

I think the term I'm looking for is "poetic justice"....

Peotic Justice

Don't know what I should take out of this more, either the fact that perhaps the Universe does have a sense of humor, or that once again we have proof of shoddy Chinese manufacting standards...
