Anybody get a Air Force ROTC scholarship...

I know that I'm just guessing here, but it does seem strange that there seem to be only two outcomes from this board: Awarded scholarship or no hope for the next two boards. I'm betting the message should have been the same as the one from the last board and somebody just messed it up. I know I'm probably overly optimistic...but I want to believe that there is still hope.:thumb:

I thought you had also applied for the NROTC scholarship. A board meets tomorrow and there are 3 more after that so dont give up hope just yet!

I wish we could have applied for the Navy but my daughter is only 4 foot 11 inches. So she is too short to apply. Congrats to all who have received their scholarships!!! My daughter has a back up plan but she is very disappointed. She really wanted to go to the University of Oklahoma but we just can't afford out of state tuition. She will probably be going to St Cloud State University in Minnesota.

No change to my son's application status yet. It still says "Your Air Force ROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your record will meet the next available selection board..." His interview was on Jan. 15th so I don't even know if his was reviewed by the most recent board.

mom2fiv and Bulldog31 -- I hope that they just posted the wrong message but if not, good luck with backup plans.

Congrats to those who were awarded scholarships this time around!

Yes, I did apply for NROTC. I was dq'd from USNA due to color vision issues, so I thought if I did get an offer from NROTC I would be dq'd. AFA has always been my first dream.

I sent this message to Maxwell and got the response below so I guess we are done good luck to all.

Hello again just one more quick question. If you receive this messagedoes that mean you are done " Your application met the board and youwere not selected for a scholarship. You will be receiving writtenconfirmation via mail within the next few weeks." My daughter really hadher heart set on the Air Force.

Yes ma'am, however if she is still interested in the program she cancontact the AF ROTC Detachment this spring/summer and get signed up forclasses. In turn she can find out what in-college scholarships would beavailable to her.

Wow- my son has the same message about not getting a scholarship. We called Maxwell and were told he was very competative, but would not meet another board. How much sense does that make. He has nominations to USAFA and West Point. It appears to me that many highly qualified people were turned down this board. Does the AF realize it is now going to lose a huge number awesome kids to the Army??? Army Rotc has been very generous in their offering to my son. So I guess it is GO ARMY from now on in my house - lol!!

The commander at my local AFROTC unit told us the applications met every board once the app was complete until the boards finished in April. I am soo disappointed.

I'd always heard this same thing. Has anyone received a new message today that was different from Congrats or the No Hope for the future? It would seem as though SOMEBODY should have gotten a message about meeting the next board unless there are NOT going to be anymore boards. Very strange.

Just a thought

What if...
the boards scored them...
that score won't change...
the next two boards score more candidates...
then the OML is compiled and scholarships are awarded...

So technically you won't meet another board?

It just seems weird.

Congratulations! You were awarded a scholarship. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks. If you have questions please notify HQ AFROTC/RRUC.
Well, some good news today, but I am sorry to hear that not everyone here could get one.

My advice though - and I know it's generic, but old doesn't mean bad - don't give up!

The end goal is to become an officer in the United States Air Force, right? A part of the strongest fighting force that the world has ever seen. Well don't let something like this get you down. I know it's hard to get news like a scholarship didn't go through, but the greatest people in our nation, in our military, are those who laugh in the face of adversity and find some way to overcome the situation.

I know that my words here may not mean much. I've been looking at the AFROTC website and these forums several times almost every day since December, so I know the rollercoaster you must've been through, but I know that you will get through this, and if being an officer in the U.S. Military is really what you want, I have no doubt that you can achieve it.

At this point, I would recommend getting in touch with the college(s) that you're interested in and see what kind of financial aid they have to offer. Also go to the high school guidance office for scholarship hints, etc. I'm sure it's all stuff that you've probably already thought of, but it's best to get a start on now (I still plan to since I don't know the amount that I've received).

I hope this helps some.

Meeting all the boards make the most sense. It would ensure you get the most qualified candidates. Maxwell did tell us "this is the end of the road for your sons application".

I really wish they would tell us the exact reason.... such as if my sons school choices had filled up in round one.

Sorry for everyone else that got the "You're done" message. Harsh day all around.

Man, that is just brutal. Maybe "they" feel it is better to have applicants move on with their future plans instead of hoping for good news that isn't going to come from the next two boards. I sure don't have any idea. I am interested in why we haven't heard from the third group of candidates....those that were not selected by this board and also were not told there is no hope for future boards. There has to be at least one person on this site....somewhere?

My son got the same thing, no mention of his application going before another board. Like others I see, he had very good SAT's (over 2100) and leadership and majoring in engineering. However, he had no interest in joining any military academy. Who knows what they were looking at or why he didn't qualify...

Thats what mine says.

I have a very hard time believing what seems to be the majority of the readers of this board have been told their chance for a scholarship is over. There are some outstanding resumes listed here and I am in total shock that so many have been denied. From the ones who have commented today it appears only 2 were awarded scholarships, which congrats are offered to them both!

On behalf of my daughter...Thank You.
But as a parent, the news today is extremely depressing. I had expected that some would receive scholarships and others would be deferred to the next board, but this is just brutal.

I simply do not understand how it is that some who did not receive scholarships are not getting to meet a new board. That just seems wrong in every way. I guess we'll get the official word when they mail out the official denial letters...
