Has anyone attended Genesis or are going to? My DD was invited but I didn't schedule her to go for fear of her missing school. Her schedule is so full, one day would set her back but now I think I'm regretting that decision. I should have let her make that call! Did she miss out?

How did you get the Genesis invitational?

Mere2033, my DD received an invitation but turned it down as she is seriously looking at two other academies. She informed them a few days ago so they could offer the spot to others. It was two days of school she'd miss. I was hoping she'd go so I could finally tour the school! Genesis is invitation only from what I can tell.

She received the invitation as "A high achieving minority high school student." That's how the invitational read.
She is hispanic from her dad's side.

I initially wasn't going to send her because I didn't want her to miss school either but we went to a Coast Guard Informational and a couple of admission people told us she "has" to go. So shes going in Novemebe.r

What do they mean she "has" to go? For her sake to see the academy, or to have a better chance at admissions? It was asked on the application too whether you attended Genesis or not. Colleges always talk about demonstrated interest, so my DD is also going, missing two days of school. I hope it really benefits her in her final decision making.

It's all about making yourself a stand out applicant. I'm hopeful the other two academies view her this way.

"Has" to go meaning it will be a boost on your application. Basically, it's worth missin a few days of school. Literally, missing a couple of days of school for my DD will through her off only because she has 4 AP class 2 hours each. Plus, we're coming from California so she needs a full travel day to get home!
But, they made it very clear it will all be worth it.

Yes. My DD is also applying at other academies but her ultimate goal is to be a military officer and her chosen field is available in every branch. She's just hoping to get one offer somewhere!

My DD went to Cadet for a Day her senior year at CGA while she was taking 4 AP classes, doing XC, filling out college applications and working. Even though she missed two days of school, it was definitely worth it. She came back knowing that she wanted to go to CGA and not the naval academy even though she also enjoyed her overnight visit at the naval academy. She actually saved herself a lot of future work, because she decided not to apply to the naval academy. My personal opinion is that it helps with your DD's decision making process and it also helps the likelihood that she will be accepted to the academy. Your DD has a big decision to make and the more information she has, the better her decision will be.

Yes. We booked her stay. She's been working toward West Point all of this time, and didn't want to apply anywhere else but I reserved a spot for her when the Coast Guard came to our town and she was reluctant to go. After the invitational, she was hooked. so excited about it. Sometimes you have to push your kids to look at different options!

Received a Genesis Invitation and applied to attend in November. Are we supposed to make our own arrangements? Haven't really heard anything since confirming the registration.

The CG will block some rooms in s couple of nearby hotels. One of them is the mystic Hilton.( I think that's what its called.) I was told that they would notify the November attendees when those rooms will be available to book. They're suppose to be a really good price.
