Haven’t heard back from cadre yet and looking to see if I can get a quicker answer here. Does BU provide free room and board for scholarship recipients? How is ROTC conducted in the city environment?

I’ll just provide some data here. The BU website does note there are a limited number of scholarships for room and board across the ROTC programs and also money’s available on a limited basis to supplement those who receive less than 4 year scholarships * for those identified as ROTC participants - prior to April 1. Suggest you make sure admissions knows you are ROTC so you are considered for those few scholarships. Details below.

also recommend your student call admissions if confirm if she or he can apply any grants, merit or financial aid if awarded to room and board directly, as others noted on a different post.

Good luck.

ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS
The Boston University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program offers scholarship opportunities in all four branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Federal ROTC Scholarships
Federal ROTC scholarships are offered in exchange for military service after graduation.

Some scholarships cover the full cost of tuition, fees, and books, as well as a monthly stipend for four years. Others provide partial tuition for three or four years. They do not cover room and board expenses.

Boston University-Funded ROTC Awards
Boston University offers grants to selected students who receive federal ROTC scholarships as entering freshmen prior to their enrollment. Priority consideration for University-funded ROTC awards is given to those who are identified as ROTC candidates prior to April 1. University ROTC grants are not available to students who receive federal scholarships after they have enrolled at Boston University.

Boston University Supplemental ROTC Grants are available for students who receive federal ROTC scholarships of less than full tuition.

A limited number of competitive on-campus room and board grants are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and potential to recipients of full-tuition federal ROTC scholarships.

Competitive room grants may also be awarded to recipients of BU Supplemental ROTC Grants. Recipients of three-year federal ROTC scholarships are also considered for competitive room grants.

Recipients of federal three-year ROTC scholarships are eligible for a Boston University Incentive Grant for the first year of their studies before their federal ROTC grant is activated in their sophomore year. The Boston University Incentive Grant is equivalent to half the cost of one year’s tuition and is available to three-year scholarship recipients in all four University ROTC programs.

... sounds to me that Boston U has a at least one scholarship(s) for room and board across all branches of ROTC. Not sure if that is 1,2, or 4 or more per year. Also not sure if these are awarded for one year or more. Worth confirming. But it is not an “ all army ROTC scholarship winners get room and board scholarships while the scholarship is active” program like others (Norwich et al). Good luck.

Thanks! I have been in contact with them and am awaiting a confirmation

BU's campus is definitely different. Are they an affiliate school for another program? Maybe BC's? If so, you may be required to travel over there for some PT and/or outdoor lab activities. At least the T runs right by/to both campuses. I never made it to Boston until my 40's but now go at least once a year just for the food in the North End.
