Application questions

I have several questions regarding my application:

1.) how long does it take for your medical status to show up in your portal? I took my exams last week.

2.) how important is the CFA? I maxed out sit ups and pull ups with a 5:30 mile. Just curious as to whether a strong score really strengthens your application at all.

3.) how important are letters of recommendations and BGO interview compared to academics?

Thanks!

Just met with an admissions rep today.

Unfortunately, can't answer #1.

CFA is important; maxing the events gives you a bump in your overall score.

Letters of rec (other than those from your math and LA teachers) are important only if they highlight something about you that's important (like leadership) that is not evident in your application. Letters of rec from your math and LA teachers need to conform with your academics--if it's a negative letter, it will hurt your application. BGO interview--if something comes up, positive or negative, that is not evident in your application, it could make a difference in how the board evaluates you. Academics--weighted more heavily than all other parts of your application, but the board considers everything that's submitted.

1.) It depends on the amount of review that need to take place, and if you have any conditions that require a more through review. I can give you the timeline for our DS. He had no medical conditions that needed review or additional information. So you could probably use his timeline as a pretty good idea. His app hit the DoDMERB system on 9/8, his exam was 9/18, DoDMERB received his exam on 9/29, he received final review on 10/1, and his Status Letter was mailed out 10/2. So the entire process took a little over 3 weeks. You can log into the DoDMERB site and get an update on where your exam is in the process.

2.) Important, in view of keeping you out. I believe poor CFA performance can probably rule you out, but awesome scores probably won't make up for poor in other areas like academic/athletic/leadership. Hit it as hard as you can and get the best scores you can get in every area. What you have listed are pretty strong numbers.

3.) The way I have heard it stated is, the BGO interview can't necessarily get you in, but it can definitely keep you out. A poor interview will not help, the same with recommendation letters.

Good luck!

Agree with above posters. DoDMERB can be quick or slow, depends on their workload and what reviews you need. Your CFA was good. Will it help you? It certainly won't hurt you. I sort of view the BGO interview that way too.
