DS went on his portal and accepted his offer of appointment on Monday. His portal status changed to "accepted" right away and a couple of links appeared to a local law enforcement background check form and a Body enhancement form (tats piercings split tongues...holy cow).
So will he get a big instruction packet in the mail soon? Will there be a lot to do?

Biggest task is the security clearance paperwork. If you have anyone in the family who already has it, it helps to be able to copy their info. Otherwise you can start building your list now. There is a site to get the info online but basically you are talking addresses for the last 100 years, Someone outside the family who can give a reference (and won't freak out when a Govy calls them). etc.. it's just a bunch info especially if you moved a lot, which of course probably indicates you are military anyway and know all this already :)

Also go ahead and get Passport, and make sure vaccines are current.

More push ups, get a pair of running shoes broken inand run, run run,

Try to eat a lot and build up weight

Oh Yeah, Go buy Tissues (For you not Your Plebe)......if you don't get that now you will later!

"Security Clearance Paperwork"? I don't believe we have seen this. DD sent off local law enforcement form and something that she signed saying she does not have tattoos, and has to send in a BC. I don't remember anything about security clearance.

A permit to report packet will be mailed next week. You can see the forms on the USNA website if you want a sneak preview.

You will receive a massive envolope with a ton of papers! Book flights, reservations, and car rental. We stayed close to the yard so we didn't have to drive on IDay--just walked in gate 3. If your son/daughter plays sports prepare to flinch every time they crash on the field!! (The worst is when they limp off!) get a good pair of running shoes and start running--a lot!!! Ignore the mostly white running shoe information--that's old info! Just not anything too flashy! The only way I could identify my plebe in pictures was from his shoes! (Helps with Waldo Watching during plebe summer). Hold on tight because you are in for a wild ride. As stressful as the admission process is it is nothing compared to once you are in!

Someone once posted--the easy part is getting in. There is some truth to that. Good luck and welcome to the family.

It's the preliminary packet for your plebe-to-be's Security Clearance. START NOW on compiling the information, particularly if you've moved. They generally ask for friends/neighbors who knew you in each place, as well as all bio information on immediate family members. WORD OF ADVICE: Create a file just for security clearance info and store in a safe place. Usually the security clearances are updated every five years.

The SF-86 security form is tedious but they only ask for the last 7 years residency of the appointee and only back until 16 years of age - so more than likely 2-3 years for the appointee.

Get an early start on all the paperwork. It can be tedious, but it is not overwhelming.

Also, don't spend a lot of time going from potential police units - local, county, state (or like us who live in a tri-state area - endless potential police agencies) to prove the appointee is not a criminal or under criminal investigation.

I would recommend taking the form to the local police district, tell them the USNA has required it so they won't expect it to make sense and the friendly officer at the counter will sign it

Otherwise, (like in TN) you might have to fill out a form and pay $50 to have the state tell you and the USN that your appointee is not a suspect or under investigation for being the head of a drug cartel

USAFA uses a form that makes a lot more sense - it authorizes the USAF to run a background check
