Appointment questions?

What I learned at Admissions-Parent Briefing at CVW: The best way to find out decisively if your kiddo is 3Q'd is to call Admissions and ask two questions: 1. Has his/her file been reviewed by Admissions Board yet And 2. Is kiddo qualified Academically, Physically and Medically? And yes, it is ok for parent to ask if kid is tied up with school. I actually stopped by Leahy Hall and spoke with Regional Director and found out. In briefing they suggested that it was ok to keep a line of communication open with Admissions.......no need to call weekly, but finding out if they are 3Q'd certainly ok and then maybe check in again late January or Feb.

They were very helpuful and nice about it. My S has done all the applications stuff and contact thus far. One day when he had a free period from school and called, the Admissions representative asked why he was calling during school day! I think as long as parents don't make a habit of calling, it is ok.

No definitive answer as to whether they would send letters about being Academically or otherwise qualified though.

...
Offers of Appointment keep trickling out - and some offers get made a few days before I-Day. (Imagine how some student who thinks he/she didn't make the cut is asked, 2 - 3 days before I-Day if they want to come!! - It happens!) ...

My husband, USNA grad, had applied to Navy and West Point (family pressure). Really, really wanted USNA. Much to his parents' horror, he turned down West Point's offer when the letter came in while they were gone over a weekend. He then received the "alternate letter" from Navy. He got the call from USNA on I-Day Minus One, come on down! Yes, it does happen.

It's just not a big deal; I found out when I called USNA about something unrelated. He found out from USMA in a letter he received this past weekend. The academies will tell you if they know--somebody has to call them and ask the question.

Can someone tell me if if you did not receive an LOA but you did receive a nomination today...when would be the soonest you might receive an appointment, if you were going to get one?

Yes...went to CVW...was told by regional director to be fully qualified by the admissions board.

The soonest is hard to know -
depends on what kind of nomination was received.
A Congressional?
If so then it depends if the MOC used the competitive method or named a prinicpal and ranked or unranked slate.

IF the MOC named your son as principal AND your son is scholastically, medically and physically qualified they are required by law to offer an appointment and it should follow soon (a few weeks? depending on the backlog in the office)
If the MOC used the competitive method the candidates on the slate are all ranked.
The "winner" may not be notified until February or March....

So, it all depends.....
Most appointments go out in late winter/early spring.
