Just want to ask if anyone knows if the appointment for the Top 150 qualified alternates started already? Seems like a lot of 3Qs are still waiting. Will it start on or before 15 April?

I haven’t gotten anything but according to my BGO, i’m 3Q. I also don’t know if i’m in a competitive district coming from Long Island or if I am a competitive alternative but i’m still pending.

Doubt any of us know. There could be some the have. Maybe they had a whole person score that is off the charts and USNA offered them confident they are top of that list.

Someone posted a great explanation here...

Each SA runs their own process. What WP chooses to do may/may not be exactly what USNA chooses to do. Typically USNA does NOT tell applicants if they are 3Q and based on prior threads I have seen, BGO's are not supposed to tell applicants whether or not they are 3Q. Usually on the USNA website they state that all applicants will be told their status by April 15. USNA also does not tell someone receiving an appointment where their NOM was charged. From a practical standpoint, at the point you are offered an appointment, you probably don't care.

Indeed.

I'm a BGO and very well connected with Admissions and I don't know that there are "many 3Q's" still waiting.
I think that you might be making some assumptions about candidates being qualified academically based on
scores and grades but the Academic Q has much more to it.

Interesting. So why would Admissions be moving so slowly?

I just wish they would start the culling sooner than later. College admissions is a dumpster fire this year with the FAFSA snafu, and some families are scrambling and looking way past plans B and C and looking at D, F, and E just strictly based on financials. I get the idea that some candidates are going to be down to the wire, but there are certainly many that are DOA and Annapolis just needs to hit the trapdoor and get the dead wood out of there.

Don’t forget - they may have made offers that haven’t been accepted yet or waiting for medical waivers to clear - which creates a holding pattern.

They move at the right pace. From a candidate’s perspective, it isn’t fast enough.

Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say "the Academic Q has much more to it"? I am still waiting, but believe I am likely academically qualified with a strong ACT (33), great grades, and over 10 APS (AP Scholar with Distinction) at a school where 99% of the senior class attends a 4-year college. I have 2 nominations, but am in a very competitive congressional district that had 4 others with LOAs.

They aren’t.

They STATE APRIL 15.

17 more days until you will know.

2 weeks.

Not trying to be rude but whyyyy do people get this in their mind? USNA says April 15.

Are people upset 2 weeks before regular college decision day?

It’s still March. Not April.

For example, I have interviewed candidates with over 4.0 weighted GPAs that had C's in Physics and key math classes with A's in Honors Chorus and Honor Band bringing their GPAs up so the GPA itself was very misleading. Specific courses taken can be another issue. Outside of Academics (which you might THINK is all that is in the Academic Q) are key stuff like leadership, the Essay and BGO interview.

I'm hoping for admission to USNA and have already been accepted into USMA. Do you think my odds are good?
