April AROTC Board

Time to revive the thread.
This is the week we should start hearing from the board.
Hopefully, we will all be able to put smiley faces on our posts soon.

Still waiting...

Hi I am a 4 year scholarship applicant and am getting quite worried about the scholarship, should I be? I have to decide what college I am attending and some options are only available with the ROTC scholarship, the deadline is May 1st for all the schools. Am I not going to find out in time?

My fingers are crossed for you all as well.

I would seriously consider putting down a deposit at a college choice that does NOT require you to have a ROTC scholarship. In addition, you might want to call the ROTC battalion at your top ROTC college choice and ask them whether they have any updated information about the latest AROTC board. If they (the AROTC) cannot give you any information you might want to ask the admissions department of your top ROTC college for an extension of 15-30 days while you wait to find out about your scholarship. It cannot hurt to ask.

I would emphasize again that if you can afford it, you should seriously consider putting down a deposit at a college choice that does NOT require you to have a ROTC scholarship. Just to be safe.....

Good Luck!:thumb:

We may start to hear something by the 30th I've been told by CC, but am not counting on getting a decision before the first.
I've emailed the two schools we are interested in.
Asked them for an extension on the May 1 deadline.
Also asked them if they have a conflict if we put deposits down at two different schools. Recommend doing the same.

You may also want to talk to the PMS at your preferred school to see if they will be offering any campus-based scholarships and try that route if you don't get a national scholarship from CC.
We understand the anxiety.

Regarding the May 1 deadline, I think many on this forum are facing the same issue, so you aren't alone.

I agree, if you have a college option that does not require an ROTC scholarship for you to attend that school, you may want to put down a deposit.

For my son, we have NO options other than an ROTC scholarship (OK, local juco, perhaps).

What we're doing is, my son is calling all his schools and asking if he can have an extension on the May 1st deadline. He called 4 schools today, and they ALL said "no problem - just let us know as soon as you know something." (note, he's asking about 3 different things, which all could have deadlines by May 1st: 1) admissions confirmation, 2) financial aid award, and 3) housing)

Hope this helps, and I wish everyone the best in this process!

So far, the school we've already put a tuition deposit with says they do not have a problem with us submitting deposits to more than one school (how would they know?) was their comment.
The tuition deposit is non-refundable at both our schools of interest.

The ROTC officer of our son's 2nd choice school called and said many schools would take an acceptance deposit after the May 1 deadline (given the economy, etc.). But it's still school-dependent, so best thing would be to check with admissions, giving the reasoning of financial (aid) issues. You ask for an extension basically.

I did some research around the web, and was personally surprised that "double depositing" generated quite a bit controversy among some who thought it "morally wrong" and akin to "making two marriage proposals", etc. I think that analogy cheapens marriage, actually. :)

I do believe the schools have access to who accepts where, however, and while some law schools and private schools could withdraw an "admit offer" over double depositing, it's rare, especially for state undergrad schools. Non-refundabability of deposits aside, if you double deposit, you should withdraw one of your acceptances once you make your decision, though.

I was told April Board letters should be going out this week, but it's sure quiet on this forum.

"I was told April Board letters should be going out this week, but it's sure quiet on this forum."

You were told letters would go out this week? CC told me next week if they get results by Friday.
I'm hoping we will start seeing the status board change soon.

I was told we will be lucky if it is done by the end of this month, but definitely be done early may. Im hoping to hear by/on Friday or Saturday.

Here's a question that may have already been answered... my daughter was 3Q with two noms to USNA but got the TWE... have just received word that she has received a 4 yr NROTC scholarship to her 3rd choice school to which she did not get in, they don't have her tier 1 major either. What are the chances of getting her scholarship reassigned to her first choice school, to which she was accepted?

Something interesting to share:

My son had an interview today (Apr 27) with the PMS at one of the schools on his list, and the PMS said that AROTC will finalize the last Board decisions in two weeks. He also said he would get the results 3 days before notice would be sent to the applicants.

I sure wasn't thrilled to hear we'll be waiting another 2 weeks. But the interview went well...

I think it's really crummy that the Army will release the last board results after May 1. The poor kids risk enrolling at one school but getting the scholarship elsewhere.

I know that all of you awaiting results are painfully aware of this awkward timing and have been taking steps to work through it. Best of luck to you.

I just think it stinks.

Hey, get ready to wait......
Was just told by a PMS that the results will NOT be out until mid May, this is so unfair to us that have been waiting since the 1st board back in Oct 09:unhappy: must be alot of movement this year, we are still going to persue the campus based scholarship:thumb::smile: again, good luck to US still in the waiting bracket.

My son also was told yesterday by a PMS that National Boards (AROTC) wouldn't be out for 2 weeks yet - not quite May 15th, but in the same ballpark.

Kydad, sorry to tell you this also, but same PMS said he would be waiting until the final National Board results before he decided about any campus-based scholarships.

I think his rationale may be that, since he has X slots to fill, he needs to know how many will come via National Boards before he "spends" his campus-based ones - never know when he might have an upperclassman who better fits his overall "slot profile" and/or shows more promise to place highly on graduation.

Can't fault his priorities, but...no joy for us waiting on the outside.....

Best wishes to all,

And it seems like we all getting a different answer depending on who we speak with.

Same for Navy I'm sure.

I think this is the same for the Navy too.
