April AROTC Board

YIPPEE!!!!! Status changed as of 7:30 am this morning!!!!!! Last name of "K".

Thank you for all the support this forum has given us and good luck to those still waiting to hear! Don't give up!

Congrats! Last name of K here, too, and going to check now. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks for the supportive comments, and the suggestions.

Max student loans are $5,500 for a freshman, while in-state tuition here is $8-$10K. Add fees, room & board, books, etc. and you're looking at $20K / year - and there's no chance we'll be able to cover the extra $15K (long story short, the economy's really cratered our finances). But, no whining, I made my bed, I'll lie in it. And we'll pay back the $60K in credit cards we ran up surviving the unemployment line if it takes 5 years of PBJ sandwiches (and working at a job I hate).

I just wish that the money that I'll have to pay on credit cards could go to pay for my son's college instead over this next 5 years.

This was all worth the ride, and we might even see about trying all this again next year. The goal of ROTC is worth it - get an education, AND serve your country, now what could be a better thing to aspire to?

Best wishes for successful outcomes to ALL!

My condolences on your situation both financially and I guess with ROTC. Your son will grow up knowing that you did everything that you could to achieve the goal and will be a stronger person for pushing through on your alternative plans.

Congrat's to all who made the cut line on scholarships, daughter received a 4 year, now we must get it switched to the school of chioce...for thoses not offered, like other posts are saying-don't give up, everything happens for a reason and only our maker knows:smile:
This process is very stressfull to say the least-have been waiting since Oct 09.
I have truly enjoyed this forum and now will be signing off the net and wish all God Speed and NEVER give up your dream-If there is a will, there is a way!!!!!

Congratulations! Let us know when the details of the offer pop up.

HwtDad - I sure wish it would have worked out for your son here. We've been hit with unemployment as well, so I know how difficult it is.

Our son didn't get the scholarship either and we went to Plan B in February. He joined the Army Reserves and will be going to boot camp next month, back to an in-state university in the fall, and then SMP his sophomore year. I think in the end it will be better for us financially than the scholarship. With boot camp pay, drill pay, $4,500 tuition assistance, student loans, and a small fund grandpa set aside, we can get through the first year. After the 2nd part of his training is complete the following summer the GI Bill and Kicker will be added, as well as the ROTC stipend. So it's a little bit more complicated, but we think it will work out. Our son has accepted not getting the scholarship and is totally excited to get started on this new path. So keep looking for a way to reach those goals!

Congrats to those of you who it finally came through for. I love to see the happy endings!

Well - found out it is a 4 yr - but not to school of choice - not even top two. What to do now? Declined admission to this school a couple of weeks ago.

Should we call CC and see if it can be transferred????? Or call school and see if we can still get in ???

Any advice would be appreciated!

Call Cadet Command. If there is an allocation then they can transfer it for you. They will need proof of acceptance to the college if they do transfer it.

Call the PMS or ROO at the top choice school today. Explain to them the situation and see what they can do. Find out if their allocations were gone prior to this board or if some offers were made from this board. If they were, then maybe someone won't accept it to the school and it will become available again.

Call the school that you go the offer to. See what they are willing to do. If they have the spot and aren't on a waitlist, I'm sure that they'll be willing to open up the offer of admission again.

CC did say that a letter would be going out in May asking if you were still going to your school of intent. At this time you can request another school and they will take it into consideration.

Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear the outcome.

Have you been in touch with the financial aid office to see if there is anything else that can be done? You can file a FA appeal and explain the circumstances and see if they can offer anything else.

What about a Parent Plus loan? If you can handle this it can possibly get you through the first year.

What about work-study? Did the school offer any help here?

I hope somehow it all works out for your family.

Well, no update here for us this morning. I guess we're officially out of the running at this point - no surprise, though, as we were feeling this way for a while now.

Good luck to all those waiting, and to those who will need to find alternative means. They're out there - you just have to dig!

Tina

For those still waiting, PMS told us it is not in alpha order - but by the OML.

So - don't give up hope.

Status change

At 10:45 a.m. status changed to "You may check your medical qualification status by visiting the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board DoDMERB WebSite"

Last name "P" for what it's worth.

Checking that it still says "Qualified" like it has for 3 weeks.
But hey, seeing something different on CC for the first time in months is nice! But we assume nothing. We will see.

Good luck to all!

He has worked SO hard for 4 years, straight arrow, never gives up.

Wondering if anyone who just received a scholarship in this last round would care to post basic stats so we can see how competitive it was? Might help those just starting the process get an idea if they're in the running or not for next year.

I guess it could have happened any time after 10:00 AM yesterday; I hadn’t checked since then.
