The CER is worth a heavy portion of the OML. I go to camp this summer but was scored in the lower half of my class (the class only has about 20 people) and recommended to not be sent Active Duty by the PMS. How much of a chance is there to be selected for Active Duty dependent on my performance a Camp?

I'm surprised that a PMS was asked to rate a cadet re active duty before advanced camp. Pretty sure it didn't work that way in my day.

Talk to your cadre. If you're deadset on going active, tell them that. See if they will work with you. Doesn't sound super likely you'll get active if your PMS suggests you don't go active though.

See, that's what I don't get though. What if the cadet finishes camp near the top of his platoon? Does camp not count for very much anymore in accessions?

The OML has changed a LOT the past few years. COVID had them change it a ton temporarily and now they are shifting what they think is important for commissioning to be more ratings and less GPA. Camp definitely counts for a decent amount but it won't compensate for having awful evaluations and/or bad grades.

In AROTC, what happens if a cadet does not go active duty? Do they get a spot in the resreves? If the cadet is on scholarship does it continue for the remaining year(s)?

It seems this would be the equivalent of not getting a flield selected for field training in the AFROTC.

I am just trying to learn a out both options. Thanks.

I should clarify that if the cadet is not recommended for active duty by PMS. I know cadets can opt for reserves.

Bottom line, if you are in the top 3400 in the National OML, you will be considered for active duty. So if you do well enough at Camp to get you there on the OML, you will still have a chance. However, you will need to do some self reflection as to why you are not recommended for AD. Chances are there are some behaviors/attitude that you need to adjust if you want to be able to excel at Advanced Camp.

Yes, the OP must be a second semester junior because Advanced Camp is the summer before senior year. So we're only talking about senior year as far as continuing. You wouldn't lose your scholarship due to not being recommended for AD, and if you ultimately don't get AD, you would go into the Reserves/Guard. (I'm assuming that there's nothing here precluding commissioning, like misconduct, not finishing degree, height/weight/PT, etc., because that's a different matter entirely. Those things go beyond not getting recommended for AD, although often times they are related.)
