Results should be coming out soon for the 2nd selection board. Use this thread to post status. If selected, post type of scholarship, and schools selected for.

I just want to wish all my fellow scholarship applicants the best of luck. We all want this, some of us maybe more than others... but nonetheless, we all want to make it. For those of you that don't, fret not; still one last board.
I hope to see you sometime in the future, serving our country together.

Good luck, and lets just get the damn winners their notifications, so us losers can pout in piece

Thank you kaners221. Good luck to you too, and all the rest of the applicants as well. Should be a busy day on this this thread when winners are announced, as they are announced on the same day I believe.

I don't mean to detract from the intention of the thread, but when exactly would we have to do the dodmerb, if we don't get the scholarship? Is it when you contract after sophomore year? Because not getting the scholarship is one thing, you have the oportunity to still join the battalion, but fail the dodmerb, and you're just SOL. I would hate to go through two years in the program, anticipating being picked up after two years, and then having that hit you in the face...

StowieJ...Hopefully your Battalion starts the process as soon as they confirm that you are on track to contract. Usually in my Battalion I'll set Cadets up for a DODMERB when they go before a campus board. Remember that you may be offered the opportunity to contract before the end of your sophomore year if you are lucky.

The lt. Colonal told me that with my GPA/SAT/ECs, I can safely anticipate getting a 3 year AD scholarship (at the brigade board). So I assume they would take care of it then. Thanks :)

No matter what the lt. Colonial said you could safely anticipate, to get an on-campus scholarship you will have to prove yourself once you're at school

Yes sir, I understand. I'm just speaking within the hypothetical realm of where a cadet does everything right. Be that as it may, I'll move this conversation over to the DODMERB section, so I don't bug anyone over here. However, what I wasn't sure of was whether or not they make you do the medical before you enroll in the basic course. Which it seems isn't the case, you only have to have that before moving onto the advanced course.

One thing that I hope some of the more informed members of the group could help me out with is: the recruiting officer at the school I'm looking at (michigan tech) told me that almost none of their scholarship recipients come from the national board, they all come from the brigade board, and the results of that come out in march-may before your freshman year. Is that considered an on campus scholarahip, because youre not getting it from the national board, or is it something completely different? Seeing as you find out before you start with the batalion, it seems like it's somewhere in a grey zone. It's something i haven't been able to find mentioned anywhere else. Is this just the one brigade that does it that way, or is it all of them?

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Not looking for an easy ride, just a way to work myself into a carreer I'm passionate about, and serve my country.

Portal won't load due to some sort of server error. Could the ROTC gods be at work?

I think the website is just getting hammered today. It has been up and down all day.

May I ask what qualifications gave him the confidence to say this...?

Kronk, my intended major is Engineering Mechanical, I have the equivalent of about a 30 act, (1330 sat cr+m) my gpa is fairly low (about 3.4), because I've always done honors and IB courses. Ive lived overseas my whole life, Congo, Uganda, and South Africa, And I've always been at international school. I've been in boyscouts, captain of the swim team, varsity since 8th grade, I've been in MUN since 8th grade, and had a president position my last year. In all honesty, my EC list is extremely long... I got a 200 on the Interview, 55 push ups, 45 situps, 5:23 mile.

His words weren't that he gaurantees it, but that with my standings he expects I would get one. He said he's never asked for one and not gotten it. Batting 1000.

I don't mean to come across as arrogant or stupid, but I think that's how it appears right now, so I'm going to stop. I appreciate the information, and best of luck to everyone hoping to be a winner.

I'm curious about why you want to know though... I'm just assuming that some schools are easier to get the in house board, than others. The thing that I understand about Michigan Tech, is that they usually only get around 2 scholarshios from the national board, but they have the budget to take around 15 as a tier B public school with relatively low tuition. I'm just assuming that the recruiting officer is aware of their personal bracket of students that usually get the scholarship, and they were just saying that if I had been an applicant in the past few years, I would have "most likely" gotten the scholarship at the in house level. Buy every year is different, so if all you 4.0 36 act students apply, I'll be left in the rear view mirror. Right now they have 26 applicants for the 15 seats.

Buy don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm trying to game the system. I'm just speaking from a hypothetical standpoint.

I ask because when I interveed with the PMS (s)he basically told me what you were told.
I wanted to see if (s)he was just trying to be kind, or if my credentials/interview were actually what provoked the comment.
With mine being similar to yours, it's reassuring to me.
As for your comment on how you came off, no worries. I feel it's good to have a chip on your shoulder (so long as we know when to brush it off .)
    BEST OF LUCK

What the recruiting officer, (not the ltc) said was that I'm not "highly competitive" for the national board, but that I am "extremely competitive" for the in house one. If I can ask, what school did you interview with?

The wording of my interviewing PMS was that (s)he would be surprised if I was completely passed over on the national board and reassured me a scholarship at her/his participating schools.
Out of respect for the PMS I'll look into sending you a PM.
