DS who is a MS-I and freshman at a state university was notified last November of his 3 year AD scholarship. (he entered as non-contract).

Today he was notified that they are adding the spring semester to his scholarship and he will contract now as opposed to next fall.

Anyone know how common this is?

Apparently a few other MS-I's got this as well. I am speculating that it had something to do with the Federal budget getting approved by congress a few months back and perhaps now it has finally trickled down to Cadet Command.

Congratulations! As to common? Battalion specific I'm afraid, however it's nice to know that your DS is held in high regard. The year that my DS was awarded a campus based scholarship the battalion had x-tra scholarships to spread around, the next two years? Not so much. Timing is everything! He should get the book stipend and the monthly once he contracts!

Fantastic news, congratulations to your son, and of course not bad news for the wallet either.

That is great news... :DFor those of you fortunate enough to have this happen to you keep in mind your summer plans are now likely going to change some. Most likely you will be going to CIET this summer. Plan accordingly...

First of all, congratulations!!!! I have no idea how common it is, but I have heard of it before from Mr. G at your sons school! He told us on our visit that there is an advantage to a campus based 3 year AD scholarship over national 3 year AD because he has some discretion of extending it to a 3 1/2 for cadets that are performing well! Sounds like your son is doing great, congratulations again!

    Go,

That's fantastic! Just the kind of thing to keep a young man's motor reving!

You should celebrate by taking Mrs. Go out to dinner and toast your DS's good work and good fortune. Splurge a little. Go ahead get the bleu cheese crumbles on your salad. Maybe even split a dessert?

WAY TO GO!!!! My DS was told if he does not get a National but gets the school based 3 yr if in his first semester he has outstanding GPA and is a stand-out (in a good way) with unit he could compete / be recommended for the additional .5 yr. So from the colleges we have talked to this is an EARNED award not a promise or easy thing to be given. So tell your son he is doing it right! Way to go and congrats!

Not to brag...but...my DS and another cadet in his battalion had a paperwork snafu early in their freshman year and were technically "disenrolled" briefly. They continued to attend PT at 0530 and worked out parallel with the battalion although not technically enrolled, shortly afterwards when their paperwork was in order they were both awarded 4 year campus based. So put in the work, get good grades and if there are scholarships available you'll be considered.
