AROTC January Board Acceptance

Just wondering...did anyone's status who just changed DoDMERB in the past few days change to their list of schools yet?

Not my daughters, I just checked an hour ago....and we still can't get into DoDMERB yet. I've read most likely tomorrow. :thumb:

However, (1) PMS e-mailed us the schools (she got 3) on her list and another called me personally to tell me my daughter is on his schools list for a 4 year.

Good Luck! Make sure you put the ROTC program down for sending scores automatically and then follow up with faxing the scores when you receive them/

Instate vs. Outstate, major change?

Anyone who might know, please answer this question for me.
Does it matter whether the school of choice is Instate or Outstate in order to get a scholarship of any kind? Also, it seems to me (I may just be paranoid) that it matters what major you are going for. I have been looking over these posts and only one other person expressing a goal to becoming a veterinarian got a scholarship. Should I change my major to pre-med instead?

My son received scholarship to 2 very pricey out of state schools. On his list of 5, #1 was a 'safety', #2 is a slight reach. His other 3 were huge reaches either because of academics (even though he is in the 'range' of scores, still very competitive) or because state school is restricted by in-state quotas.

His major is Math.

Army doesn't seem to care about majors, but I don't if that holds true to med majors.

Apply to the major you want.

Helen23. My daughter received a scholarship in the Dec board round to two schools. One was in-state and one out-of-state (her #1 school). She is a pre-vet major in Animal Studies. You and she have similar qualifications (your gpa is higher but D's ACT was higher) as well as career interests. She accepted the out-of-state school where she also got ED admission.

I don't think the choice of major played much of a factor in the CC or PMS decision process to offer the scholarship. I do know that the out-of-state situation was a factor in her case (although it has not been a factor for many others). The ROO told us that the PMS could offer 2.5 scholarships to in-state applicants for one out-of-state. Fortunately, based on input on this forum, my daughter made a real effort to connect with this unit in the run-up to the Dec board. If not for that, I'm not sure they would have given her the more expensive out-of-state scholarship.

I think retaking the ACT is a good move as that is the only area in which you look much different in profile from my pre-vet daughter who got a scholarship.

Got it!

My son has been awarded a 4 year AROTC scholarship!
He will attend VT in the fall!
Woo Hoo!:thumb:

THANK YOU to everyone on this forum - I have learned so much and have been GREATLY encouraged through this process.

FYI:
My son's file was complete and ready for the first board in Sept.
Christmas came and went..... But January had great news!

Good Luck to all of you - there still are many scholarships left to be offered!!

This is such a great place for information. My son's status changed over the weekend and we are very, very pleased about it. Has anyone found out which schools they have gotten yet? Thank you very much.

Congrats - that's great news!!!! Did your son's status just change on Tuesday?

congratulations to those who have good news from this board and best wishes for those who still wait!

i was not awarded a scholarship in the January board, however i called my number one school and they said that they have zero slots for the March review board. Will this change? is there a chance more slots will be avaiable?

Yes, Unless every single person offered a scholarship to that school accepts, then there will be empty slots.

Example:
CC offers 10 cadets scholarship to State U
5 Accept the scholarship to State U.
5 Accept the scholarship to different universities
That means that State U will have 5 scholarships to offer in the next round.

The other interpretation is that he had "10" scholarships at the school and all have been awarded and accepted. In my experince, in the OC scenario above, the school would have said they don't know yet how many will be available in March as they wait to see how many from the January offers are accepted at the school.

Ugh...still no school list yet! This waiting is horrible:thumbdown: I'm doing my best to be patient and wait though:smile: Anyone have any idea how much longer it'll be before the DoDMERB status changes to the list of schools?

the number of scholarships "locked in" can change due to medical disqualification/waiver process.

At our student's #1 school 3 of 7 scholarship applicants ( also service academy applicants) are still trying to overcome medical disqualifications and still accepted scholarships at their first choice school.

So, yes, it can change, depending on the outcome of accepted scholarships being medically qualified.

Of course "accepted" doesn't necessarily mean used. From the posts that I've read on this site, many people accept their scholarships and then decide to go to one of the SAs or other ROTC programs (or nothing). Don't give up hope, things will most likely change after May 1st and some slots will probably open.

Aglages and House make valid points. Even after the scholarships are accepted they not be "activated" due to DQs, accepting SA admission, or the recepitent might decide against jointing ROTC for other reasons by the May acceptance date.
