Anyone hearing anything from their colleges yet on when to report?
Anyone hearing anything from their colleges yet on when to report?
DS received email from PMS regarding HOW to report but there is no need to report early. PMS related that because anticipated personnel needs will be decreasing based on present worldwide events that those who don't show up physically fit could be shown the door sooner than later. PMS basically said there is no reason to coddle anyone that doesn't present in great shape as this will be a very easy way for them to judge your commitment to the program. Also reminded them that readiness is in the control of the student and this first impression will be lasting. PMS very much painted picture such that DS could read. PT three mornings a week at 5:50am.
So.... Two mile run Thursday besides 1 hour playing hockey, 5 hours of teaching tennis and two hours playing tennis. Two mile run Friday even when friend didn't wake up and show up to run - friend said, "You still parked in my driveway and went without me?" Two mile run today, while on vacation. DS knows there's no reason he can't max the PT test and why he shouldn't shoot for the top of the chart for his first impression. Encourage others to do the same.
Heck with the extended scale he should shoot for more than the max. I want my first pt test to be a 305. right now I am at 60 pushups, 85 situps, and 14 min 2 mile. I can do it!
SaltLife- one way to ensure that you get all sorts of attention is to talk about your performance before hand. The US Merchant Marine Academy shares a motto with the 22d Infantry- in Latin: "Acta non Verba"- in English: "Deeds not Words".
It's good to have goals- it's better to be quiet about them before hand and then demonstrate your performance with little commentary. A 14 min 2 mile is fairly pedestrian and it's a minute slower than the max (13:00)- which is still about a minute slower than the average time my staff was running which took into account a lot of much older officers and NCO's. 60 Pushups is a long way from 75 (22-26 max) and as Paradoxer has pointed out form matters and on your first APFT- form will be everything. don't be surprised if you hear the count sounding something like : "one, one,one one, two, three, three" etc...
Not trying to be a jerk, just a little friendly advance warning.Regardless of whether you are going to NCState, VMI or USMA or anywhere else in the Army world- a new Cadet would do well to stay fairly lowkey about what they "will do". Do your best, set aggressive personal goals and demonstrate a team attitude that doesn't include talking a lot about yourself.
You are not being a jerk at all, you know more that I do and you are trying to help me. Thank you If I could not take a little constructive criticism then I would not be involved with the military. By the way, what is the form for the push ups? Is it simply going down until your arms are 90 degrees or is there some change up?
