AROTC Scholarship Thread - Class of 2028

Yes he did. But you really need to reach out to the school and be proactive. You need to be in communication with cadre and financial aid office at school to ensure they know you are coming in with the scholarship and make certain any additional benefits such as room and board are lined up to be credited to your account.

Well you should be all set. Just keep in contact and coordinate as you complete your financial/housing/enrollment processes this spring and summer.

Once my DS uploaded his acceptance of winner letter, the status has been changed to “school name…(A)”. What does (A) mean? Does it mean that all set?

However, to be sure, it might be a good idea for him to reach out to the scholarship administrators or the school's admissions office to confirm that he's completed all the necessary steps to secure his offer. Also, if you're looking for ways to prepare for university life, I recently came across Oxford Academy, which offers programs to simulate the Oxford experience. My son has a 3 year AROTC and now a 4 year Navy ROTC, Army is his first choice. Would it be of any benefit to ask the Army if they would consider a 4 year upgrade?

I would accept any scholarship as offered pending final college admissions decisions, then return the scholarship(s) that he doesn’t utilize.

My son has NROTC, AFROTC, & ROTC (all 4-year). He’s accepted NROTC & ROTC outright pending final college acceptances. AFROTC is unique in that you have until 1 May to let them know where you’re going to use the scholarship, which allows the college acceptance waiting game to fully play out without having to move your scholarship to another school like NROTC & ROTC do.

My son isn’t wedded to any specific program, he’s in position to weigh service, school, and engineering discipline. He’s in position to use merit scholarships towards room & board. His final choice will be difficult!

Anecdotally, it seems that 3-year scholarships *MAY* have the potential to become 4-year scholarships once unused scholarships get returned. Not sure of the truth regarding this, but it seems to be a hot topic here.

DS also currently has a 3-year ARTOC scholarship. I'll simply add that it is possible you could be upgraded to a 4-year scholarship after the final board meets. That's happening next week, so everyone will know soon enough.

There's really no way of predicting whether you'll be upgraded. It just depends on where you stand on the master OML and how many additional 4-year scholarships remain to be awarded, though it seems each year, a certain number of prior 3-year AD awardees are "upgraded" to 4-year scholarships.

I'd just give it until the beginning of April and let the dust settle once March board results are released. Then you can more fully evaluate your options and make a decision that seems best for you.

ROTC is all new to me but we got it all completed and my son was awarded a 3 year. From reading the posts - you are all very helpful, thank you!: Question: He initially listed 5 school and got awarded to 2 of them. His first choice, and one of the ones identified on the letter to is the only school he did not get into (waitlisted). How likely is it that this 3 year can transfer to one of the other schools not listed on the award letter OR one not even in his original list that has rotc and that he has been accepted to? We applied so many months ago that preferences have changed! Also how come it is offered to some people for 2 schools and other for three? You are required to include state schools but he doesn't even want to attend any of those but that's one of the 2 schools he was awarded too. Any insight regarding the school thing would be so appreciated! and congrats to all!
