My daughter, who is finishing her sophomore year in school, is very interested in USMMA as a stepping stone to a Naval Reseve ensign's comission.

She is a very good track athlete, having qualified for the state meet of champions as both a freshman and sophomore, and her personal bests are close to the academy women's team records. My question is will getting on the radar screen of the athletics' coaches at USMMA be at all helpful? From what I can tell from the website, the women's track team doesn't look like much right now though in the past it had some strong performers.

Always a good idea to get on the radar of the coach of any team you are interested in. The athletic website has a form to fill out for potential athletes. Go ahead and fill that out and the coach will likely contact you and you can go from there.

It is absolutely worth contacting the coach. We're pretty sure that it helped our daughter's application. Plus the coach helped answer some of our questions along the way. Our daughter seems to really like the track/cross country coach. The teams this year were mostly plebes. It strikes me as a nightmare to try to build a team with a large percentage of your team heading out to sea for any given season. Here's hoping for a better season next year!

Yes, use your athletic aptitude to springboard your nomination.
