    Hey fellow unfortunates,

I was just informed by admissions that the class is literary full and that they arent accepting any wait listed people this year. That's intense stuff. I've been informed by that response that all us holds will recieve a rejection letter in the next week. In other words, everyone start working on that plan B! or C/D/E/F/G...! It's VERY unlikely any of us will get in at this point. I apologize if this irritates anyone, just passing on some information.

While we should all still hope for the best, please let us know of any changes to online status or receipt of any letters. I will do same.

    Yawn...

The USMMA acceptance process has dragged on for so long it has almost has become a curiosity to my DS on what would happen. That combined with the recent unfortunate events at the academy (poison gas in the dorms, unpunished cheating by midshipmen, sudden unexplained leadership changes, meddling interference in the daily affairs of the academy by the Obama administration, etc) have taken the luster away from the place. My DS seems to have moved on long ago.

wow... eagleone, sad that your thoughts have evolved to that. :frown: If you hae such a negative opinion about this Service Academy, then why do your waste your time still visitng and commenting on a Forum sight for a school that your child will never attend? For the record, the parents of the USMMA kids, and the students at the USMMA certainly don't hold the same negative opinions about their school. There were no CO detectors in ANY of the Service Academys, sir. Now there are. Sudden unexplained leadership changes happens at ALL of the academys, constantly. The President has had better things to do than to daily meddle in a Service Academy. And the unpunished cheating by 2 of the female candidates was bad, I'll give you that one. These kids do live by the honor code. Sad that any luster was taken away from you, but even more sad that you'll never have the chance to realize how much you missed out on.

Best of luck to all of the hold candidates. I know last minute changes always happen. Better to have a Plan B and move forward, but don't close the door until the door closes on you!

What about prep school offers? Meetings were held to discuss candidates only a few days ago?

DS accepted his prep school spot yesterday--after a 2 year process. Let me share his story…

My DS applied to the USMMA for the class of 2015, was placed on hold—fully qualified with a senatorial nomination--in November 2010--only to receive the denial letter on May 8, 2011. He went off to a top 100 state university, revaluated his priorities and decided to reapply for the class of 2016. He was placed on hold again in January 2012—again with a senatorial nomination!

Boy, was he bummed. He even thought of throwing in the towel and saying the heck with it. He had and still has a solid plan B in place (Army contracted scholarship cadet).

Then the call came last Tuesday (in the middle of college final exam week) that he was being offered a prep school spot. Here he is--just finished his first year of college and has 54 college credits to his name.

What to do at this point? We waited until his packet officially arrived in the mail so that it could set in and he could think about doing in freshman year again at NMMI and then AGAIN at the USMMA.

eagleone--this is not meant to flame you or anything but if you following the admission process on any of the other service academy forums you will see how slow and methodical the process is. It is true testament that your DS got to the hold position and not a situation where ANYONE needs to be embarrassed.

I understand how frustrating and sad it is to see your child want something so bad only to be denied. For most of these kids, they have never had someone tell them that they were not quite good enough—in our case multiple times. My DS and I know the feeling all too well. I am so proud of him that he did not give up!

Yes, I have been following the events that have been unfolding all year long along with you—in my case 2+ years’ worth. We do not know how the prep school will work out but he is going on a leap of faith that he is making the right decision—even though it will take him 6 years to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. We support his decision because he can ALWAYS go back to where he came from and finish. We live by the motto “No regrets. Forever is a long time to think whudcoudashuda”

If your DS really wants this bad enough he will make the hard decision about whether to reapply or not—who knows he still could get a spot in this years’ class.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting and never give up on your dream.

    Well said Aooga15:wink:

FinFan-Thank you for sharing your DS's story. It is that kind of committment that countries are founded on. Competition is tough for all the SA's and it takes resilience, hard work and dedication to overcome the obstacles presented to our young DS/DD's. It is a testament to their character however, when they do eventually achieve their dreams/goals.

Good luck to those still waiting:smile: Don't give up, move forward and keep your eye on the prize:shake:

To everyone waiting on the waitlist or prep school waitlist you should wait until you get that final letter/call that says your not accepted. People are accepted to multiple academies and some get multiple prep offers as well. Some deny to accept their appointments and prep slots. So a spot may open up for you.

    Moving on

I have been following this site hoping that my DS would get an appointment, but as I noted above, he moved on with plan B awhile back. In March he received a letter saying he would likely know by April 10th. When that didn't happen, he checked out on the academy. I told him not to give up, but I think he did. All the turmoil around the USMMA just helped him decide. He mentioned it several times during the year and was concerned about it.

Good luck to those who received appointments.

    Perfection

No school is perfect, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages to every school, service academy's included. Don't get offended if someone posts negative comments about a school you show favor to. Because at the end of the day, no school is perfect.

Thanks for the insight everyone, and the news about the wait-list needsomeluck. Aooga15, interesting fact about CO detectors; but everything else you said to try and convince eagleone of being ignorant, was completely irrelevant.

DS received the TWE today. The letter said, "The Admissions Office anticipated there would be an opportunity to select additional students from the Hold list. Regretfully, while we were able to advance a limited number, circumstances did not permit us to move a substantial number forward."

As a result, DS will attend one of the three maritime colleges in the northeast U.S. (he's been accepted at all), compete on their sailing team, and immediately reapply to USMMA.

Thanks for months of help here on the forums; we'll see you again in a coming "reapply" thread.

Yes definitely, if the academy is something you really want to do then don't give up and be persistent. If you show them how much you want to do it they will give you a chance. don't give up even if you have to wait a year.
