My DS received and email from someone regarding the Palmetto Battery. Do incoming knobs generally get emails about Battalions? He was very excited and claimed he's wanted to be in that Battery since he visited the campus last year.

Also, from research it seems to be an Army ROTC group, and I know he's expressed interest in the Marines. If he goes with his group, is he then required to do Army ROTC?

Sorry, I'm new to all this. I'm about to join the parents support group after his HS graduation, and I'll pepper them with questions too.

Palmetto Battery (PB) is in Stevens Barrack which houses 5th Battalion and PB is in charge of Cannons and Color Guard. It has nothing to do with ROTC. The ROTC Unit (which has nothing to do with the corp) is The Palmetto Battalion.

As knobs they are required to mule the artillery cannons to the Summerall Field parade day.

Ok. Thank you. I think my name should be Clueless Parent, not you..

Is Stevens Air Conditioned?

Honestly I can't remember...I am thinking not. May be a window unit... And sometimes the heat works in the winter :) Not things a Cadet worries about but a mom does ;) I think Stevens is the oldest barrack left in service.

Now I want to send a down comforter for a non-reliable heater. Guess they can still only have the thin blanket on top. He's from a hot place. Thin blood.

He just explained to me the difference between battery and battalion as well. He clarified it was a Battery email.

Usually no heat issue but 5th has had some boiler issues. I never heard any complaints....they manage. You said warm climate..how humid?

To clarify Palmetto Battalion (ROTC) is not just The Citadel but includes other area Colleges. The Citadel is the bulk of the Batt. And I am still pretty clueless about the ROTC scholarships etc. My DS did SC Army Guard SMP.

Very humid. And he played football in it for 10 years. He's an extremely heavy sweater...but he manages. We were freezing in April during knob weekend...FYI.lol

Hi. Palmetto Battery is a company within the Corps of Cadets housed in a battalion. Same as Alpha Company. PB does have extra duties regarding cannons and flag details.
