BOLC dates?

The dates aren't set in stone - just made arrangements to help drive a car out to Ft Sill only to find dates changed to June 3

Just think, the sooner she gets to Lawton the sooner she'll get to leave. They are lowering the passing standard here back to where it used to be at 70% (it's currently an 80% for us that have already started), so your DS will be here just in time for that.

Passing standard?

Sorry, I couldn't think of a good term for it at the time, but the grade you need to make to pass FA BOLC. For the longest time it was always 70%, but for the past year or so and now ending with the incoming classes it has been 80%. Just imagine FA BOLC as a semester of school because that's essentially what it is, where you are taking 3 classes (PL/CAD, Gunnery, and Fire Support) and each class is split into multiple blocks throughout the "semester." You'll start with Block 1 CAD, PL, FS, and Gunnery (yes, all at the same time) and after a few weeks take your Block 1 tests. You must get atleast an 80.00% to pass, a 79.99% is an F. If you fail, you get 1 retest the next day, and even if you get a 99% on the retest, you only get a 80% in the grade book for that block. Long story short, after all those tests you must have an overall 80.00% to pass and graduate. Anything less and you get to go plead your case to the BTRY, BN, and BDE commanders on why you should be allowed to recycle (they can and have separated LT's from service for failing). The standards, curriculum, etc. change as commandants and commanders come and go, and I guess the current one has determined that going back to 70% is the right move as roughly 20% of FA BOLC classes are currently recycles from previous classes.

There are 4 blocks to both Gunnery and Fire Support, 2 blocks to CAD, a safety exam (this standard will remain an 80%), and a Block 5 Comprehensive exam. Gunnery is what kills people in the course. A 80% average probably doesn't seem too hard, but this course requires extreme attention to detail and precision, and is just simply a very difficult course (most people don't know/understand this). To give you an idea, all of our tests are open note, open book, open computer (minus Internet), and just about everyone will fail a test at some point and not because they can't reference an FM.

I'm sure that's 100 times more info than you were wanting, but someone will probably read it.

Don't make at least 70%....you don't pass and are recycled back through. Tougher then it sounds.

Correct. And to add to it, say because of your first 2 blocks of tests you mathematically cannot pass the course, you are not immediately recycled. You go through the entire course knowing you will not graduate, and then are recycled to Day 1 with a new incoming class. There are LTs here that have been here since last June

Both sad and happy to see them move on and follow their dreams. :( June 12 FA bolc for my daughter

Cheer up Azmomm, your daughter will be in the same class as my son, he is a very nice guy.

So we are half way done. She says the hardest school she has ever attended. She seems to think that the worst is over and is planning a trip with some classmates from bolc to either iceland or peru after graduation. Hope everyone is doing well

It gets better! The first blocks are the absolute worst. There will be times ahead that are still very challenging, but if her grades are looking good now she can sustain til the end. Good for her!

DS just finished what he called the connect the dots Army stuff and just entered the FA portion a week ago. Already said he was sleep deprived from study time...

The first weeks are the worst. Class from 0830-1800 (or later) then homework til 2200 or later, then right back up for PT at 0545. The days are long, but the weeks go by fast. Soon enough he'll be cruising to the finish.

One thing I distinctly remember that is different from all of the schooling I had prior to FA BOLC. There will be days where you leave class and have no idea what you just did. And you just have to accept it and prepare for the next day. Eventually everything builds on each other and the earlier tricky lessons make sense, but mind blown is a real thing in that course.

On another note, your son has a lot of the same instructors that were with my class. They are very good and will go to any length to help a student.
