My braces are scheduled to come off this March, I have a remedial status on my DoDMERB because of them. Do I need to inform the DoDMERB when they come off, or how does that work?

And second question, would USNA look less favorably upon my application because of the remedial status?

My son was fully qualified by Dodmerb in November, even though his braces are still on his teeth. They are scheduled to come off next month. It was listed as a remedial and Dodmerb sent a form for the orthodontist to complete stating the date the braces would be removed and what type of on-going work would be needed (the answer for DS was none). My son has to sign an affidavit that the military would not be responsible for any orthodontist costs or follow-up. Less than a week after submitting that form, he was qualified.

I have braces right now scheduled to come off in June 2016 and I was never given remedial status. I am fully qualified for USAFA, USNA, and USMMA. Of course, I would have them removed prematurely in the event of an appointment.

Interesting. Did you list them on your DoDMERB application?

I did. I wrote it on the application, and the doctor wrote it, as well.

Well, good on ya, then. From what I've seen, that usually ends up warranting a remedial and then a DQ needing a waiver from the SA. Sounds like you lucked out.

My DS also had to sign forms. His will be removed 2/2014. It is my understanding that you CANNOT attend any SA with braces on your teeth?

That is my understanding. I believe it says as much on the DodMERB and/or SA site (at least for USMA).
