My brother PCS'd today to Germany, and will be heading to Afghanistan on July 15th (his birthday coincidentally). He is a USMA grad, 2LT Infantry officer.

What year did he graduate? Best wishes to him and to you!
Just be careful what info you're putting out there about dates/locations
^^^ Never post exact dates and location of deployments ^^^
This might seem silly but this can give the enemy a better idea of manning and better information to plan an attack etc.. I would highly recommend editing your post
Thanks, high school expert on military affairs.
He didn't post anything identifiable. A unit of an unspecified type from an unspecified base in Germany is going to Afghanistan. DoD releases more than that.
Sir/Ma'am,
I wouldn't consider a member of our active duty enlisted force to be a "High School expert". I was simply re-iterating the exact words I have had to sit through briefing after briefing about because someone decides to post this kind of info online.
Realistically would the information pose a serious risk no, but if you go by the book it says not to post this kind of information online period. Whose to say he/she won't post more detailed information elsewhere?
.......
OPSEC Rules for (forum, blog, chatroom name):
Do not post exact deployment dates or redeployment date, redeployment, underways, field training, or any other exercise where command movement is involved.

Air Force AFI "Should be similar for every branch"
1.4.18.1.1. (Added-AFSPC) Examples of prohibited out-of-office e-mail/voicemail information
are: Exact deployment/leave/TDY dates, deployment/leave/TDY locations, description/
nature of absence, or any personal details that might lead to exploitation.
He should definitely be sure not to put any of that info in his out-of-office voicemail or email message, per that AFI that doesn't apply to him as a civilian family member.
Know what the reg says before you post it, and think about what it means. Putting that in your email/voicemail does what? It ties that info to a specific, named individual.
Here's the DoD Press Release that announces the deployment.
