C/O '26 parents - place to commiserate and share. Roller coaster for the next 3 years!

I was forced to do Detail my 1/C summer. I hated it. It’s exhausting, you are ‘on’ every second, you get sick from Plebes, they smell. I hate yelling. I also had a fellow 1/C company mate die while he was on leave. I was the senior person from my company on the yard at the time with a new Gunny and Company Officer who had never met my classmate. Calling my classmates, pulling his room mates off cruise, coordinating a uniform for a funeral, shipping his stuff home and everything that went with that was an experience (not sure I even have words to this day). It was quite the summer. It took me several weeks into the academic year to recover physically and mentally from 3-4 weeks.

I had some good conversations with my drills in boot camp at the end of it. It was rough on them, and they were doing it all over every 8 - 12 weeks! That's a tough gig.

Great perspective from two who have "been there, done that."

It goes beyond boot camp and plebe summer. At DD's TBS graduation, was chatting with her platoon captain and enlisted leader -- both charged with the development of the newly minted O-1s. They didn't say it in so many words, but their jobs were clearly stressful and exhausting. Also got the sense that their jobs were very fulfilling. Thank goodness for them.

Well, he didn't get detailer. He was a bit bummed, but not surprised. Everyone (3/C) in his company WAS surprised by one of the choices as this person is really annoying and pushy.

So, now he's thinking about his other options. He would like to do a sub cruise I think.

PRT yesterday. Kid's wrist has been bothering him, so he was worried about push-ups. But, maxed them and plank. Not a great run though. He was hoping to be back in the 8's as he was running more consistently, but that didn't happen. Actually stopped for a hot second to get medical assistance for a female mid who passed out. So, I'd say a little slower time was more than understandable!!

He was supposed to come home for the weekend, but wifey got COVID, so he stayed away. :(

Got some time with the dude yesterday and today as he took a weekend. Really nice to see him, especially since he's dealing with some stuff right now. Doesn't matter how old your kid is, they're still your child, and seeing them upset is hard. :(

Mine rolled his ankle during run and could not finish. He is now waiting to hear if he will get a PRT fail or if his Bad Day chit will be approved. Ortho visit in the morning
Bad day chit was not approved, so BTT it is. Found out he had the flu on top of the rolled ankle, so he missed some of the exams and has to do make ups. Never a dull moment.

We spent the weekend with our Mid, and had a blast helping out at the Texas Taco event last night. Served tacos and Blue Bell ice cream to about 200 Mids from Texas, and enjoyed watching them win door prizes for Texas trivia. Even better - had so much food left over, word got out quick and we were able to feed a bunch of additional Mids from all over. My heart was so happy - seeing and getting to talk to so many of these awesome young men and women. Truly inspiring.

Shameless brag ....... 3.42 GPA officially for this 6-weeks, his best yet (by far). Proud papa.

He also was starting to look at Intel, for various reasons he's trying to work through. But, that thought has taken a turn pretty quickly once he delved further into it. He doesn't know what he wants to do now ......

I saw the photos from that event and it looked like everyone had a great time.

... so the rollercoaster 🎢 continues.
... tidbits from the yard:

* GPA decreased to 2.9 due to a D+ in Probability-Statistics. In my day, it was a difficult course with computations done using a slide rule (ancient relic✝️ found in museums). No dramas this time with the D grade. I don't understand why it is still difficult with high speed Texas Instruments calculator. Other grades were As/Bs
** Spring Break. Florida bound with a Mid friend (maiden) 🤔.

*** Summer Cruise. Aiming for Pearl Harbor. Currently interested in EOD branch (will probably change 2-3 times). There are 3 teams listed in PH.

**** Fall Parades-Navy Football. Pending schedule release.

The 🎢 is legit! Highs and lows can happen with moments from each other phone call this week proved it.
Coming home for Spring Break since not coming home for summer. ♥️😬
3.45 gpa
Selecting classes for 2/C year
Moving away from anything Marines, wishing intel was an option

Welcome back Severn!

Just texted the dude. He took Prob and Stat in the Fall. I quote, "That class was awful."

Kid has no idea what his summer will look like. Didn't get any of the things he wanted so far.

... so with summer cruise in Pearl Harbor, he started talking to "people" last semester. The plan is to take a PH cruise followed by a 30-day leave making it like the movie "The Endless Summer."
... not heard anything about a company transfer; still in 29th Company. I joked about handling his "musket"(M14 Rifle) after the parade to see if I can still perform the right/left shoulder arms-present arms movements. "No Way." He said that the bayonet is a controlled item and must be turned in immediately. So I said ok, just take some pictures in Bancroft with the parade uniform still on.

My DS is really looking forward to spring break because the Glee Club is traveling to Japan for it! I won't see him but my younger DS is going to be on checking colleges out in New England area. He has now decided to apply to USNA (yikes, a potential 2nd kid there!) I hope that info comes out about summer blocks. I'd love to have some idea when I might see DS. It is hard to go to 2 times a year only! (Yes, when in the fleet it might be even less - I know).
