Yesterday while I was at work, I got a call from USNA. My mom told them to call me the next day. This morning, there were thunderstorms and my swim practice got cancelled, so I slept in a bit, until I was woken up when I got called again. Anyway, I was a bit groggy, so I missed her introduction. She asked me what I'm doing to prepare for the academies, why I want to go there, and then she set up a time to meet. My mom didn't remember her name, either, or know what her tie to Annapolis was -- she just said her name was "Lt. Something-or-another." Would this be my BGO with whom I was talking?

    Did you learn your lesson?

    1. Never speak on the phone until you are ready.
    2. Always have paper and pencil handy or excuse yourself to get some.
    3. Never be afraid to ask someone to repeat their name and/or to spell their name.
    4. Before hanging up, it's a good idea to summarize the conversation back to the other party.

Probably your BGO -- although MOST (not all) are more senior as most LTs are out in the fleet and not around and/or don't have time to be BGOs. It could have been the Regional Director from CGO, altho I'm not really aware of their calling candidates. If you're a minority candidate, it could have been one of the minority/diversity admissions officers from USNA.

Really hard to say since we weren't on the call.

Just to add to the confusion, CGO did commence last year phone calls to candidates by recent TDY grads awaiting orders. Could have been a USMC 2LT. However, depending on location, the meeting request might negate this.

Also some BGOs utilitze recent grads TDY to local recruiting offices to make contact with their slate.

Wouldn't it have been rude to make her wait five minutes, though?

I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I really don't remember her saying her name at all. I do remember everything else she said. She said she'd be in further contact with me before our meeting in mid-August, so at least I'll be able to confirm who exactly she is then. And I'll try those tricks in the future.

She said she would be in my area in mid-August, which gave me the impression that she had something to do here, anyway.

Nope, unless white female counts.

Just a bet that it was 2LT Dingess. She called for my son yesterday to schedule a mid-August meeting as well. She can be reached at the Admissions Office.

May not be the one, but then again... may be.

Like "Mom" suggested... I sked for a second to get paper and pencil. :)

That could be it, especially if you are from northwestern KY. Thanks!
