Hello everyone, I am a high school junior and I have submitted my candidate questionnaire and my application to SLS. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on my profile. I am in the top 10% of my class (200) in a highly competitive all-boys Catholic school. I have received a 25 on my ACT (first time). I am a member of student council and a senator for my class. I am the Treasurer for my school's NHS. I am the founder of my school's Social Studies Olympiad (in which we finished 3rd in the state in our first year). I am also a member of Campus Ministry and a member of Mock-Trial. I was the manager of the JV baseball team last year. Now, I am a member of the Cross Country Team (in which I will be a Captain next year), and the Track Team. Thanks for your feedback!

You probably won't be accepted with the score you have now. You really need to take the time to study and retake the ACT. I started out with a 22 and just recently received a 29 for the test in December. You can do it! Just put in the time everyday! You are on varsity cross country?

This year I was not. However, next year I will. How did you get your score to go up? Also is everything else "up to snuff"?

While you are awaiting responses, search the forums using "Chance," "Chances," "Stats, " "2020 appointments." There are dozens of "chance me" and "what are/were your stats" threads. Especially this time of year as appointments roll out.

I am a candidate so I can't answer that. Everything looks good to me although fitness and Act score would be my concern if I was you. I am currently a senior in college. I have learned how to study so for the ACT I worked practice test after practice test. That's the only way to do it! Just study everyday. Make sure you are ready for the CFA. Pull ups are hard!

The only way you will know is to apply. If you don't apply, I can guarantee you won't get in.

    Attend Boys State.
Continue to look for leadership positions. Most impressive is to an elected president.
Captain of sports teams, which you have
    Varsity sports letters.
But most important is great academic achievement (class rank and ACT/SAT) in the most challenging classes. Work on improving those ACT scores.

Take the ACT/SAT when ever possible to bring up your WCS. Typically after three or four times taking the standardized test you'll peak. Then you'll need to invest in outside help. What ever programs your school has to offer take advantage of them to help improve your score

Take it as much as you can and focus on a specific area each time

To echo what is above, APPLY. Until they say no there is always a chance. Look through the threads and understand what they look for. Your scores are on the low side, but you have plenty time to improve. STUDY GUIDES, get them and work them.

Here is a class profile from WP - http://www.usma.edu/admissions/SitePages/Class Profiles.aspx
As you can see, ACT of 25 is on the low side. Again, you have time. Good book for Math I have recommended to other kids -
http://www.amazon.com/Math-Study-Gu...8&qid=1452976465&sr=8-2&keywords=richard+corn . Those that have used it all said it helped.
Use the profile as a gauge and as guidance on where YOU need to improve. Do not get caught up in comparisons to others. As you go through this process, you will learn every district/state is different. There are multiple factors that can impact your selection. Everyone is different and has a different mix of strengths and weaknesses. Focus on what you can improve on over the next year.

Jump on applying to Boys State NOW. It's that time of year for some States. Do miss the window to have a chance at getting selected.

Medical is medical. Stay healthy and don't get injured.

If you haven't already, start preparing for the CFA. See the following link. http://www.usma.edu/admissions/Shared Documents/CFA_Instructions.pdf
    Strive to maximize each category.

Have a plan B, C, etc. Get your ROTC applications in THIS SUMMER. First selection boards start early in the school year. Give yourself a chance to get a 4-year versus a 3-year. Give yourself a chance to get your first school choice versus your second choice.

    Good luck!!!

In addition to the academic advice, be sure to work on upper body strength - my kid (also cross country/track) had issues with the non-running part of the CFA (especially the dreaded basketball throw).

Have a backup plan if you don't get into an academy - my oldest applied to USMA/USNA/USAFA, had 3 nominations to their top choice, & didn't get in to any of them the first time around.

However, he was offered both Army & Navy 4-year ROTC scholarships, so he took the Army ROTC scholarship at a local university, then re-applied to USMA & USNA, was accepted at both, & is now at Annapolis.

Don't place arbitrary limits ("goals") on yourself. Always try to get the highest score possible. Personally, I would take some practice tests (available at libraries, books, online, etc. - google is your best friend) and get your subsection scores. Take those subsection numbers, and aim for an increase of 3-4 points. This time you probably want to go for a 29-31 composite. Use study guides, take a practice test every 2-3 weeks (simulate test conditions STRICTLY). It's not that hard to get a 36 on English and Writing (I have), as long as you manage your time. Specialize your studying on a few sections, as a really good score will compensate for an average score in a different section. A good book to study with if you have time is "ACT 36 in Just 7 Steps". Don't rely on your ECAs/Academics/Athletics to get you in. Do your very best is all that is needed. None of us have the magic formula for admissions, so we can't even really tell you the scores you'll need. Above all, PRACTICE

60 % of your acceptance score is based on GPA and ACT/SAT. Take the tests early and as many times as you can afford. West Point super scores so you can send in multiple tests.

What should be your goal???? Please dear poster, READ what's already here. When you do so, you will see that your goal should be 800/800 on your SAT and 36 on your ACT. Yes, that should be your GOAL. Will you achieve this goal? Maybe, maybe not. But you should STRIVE for that.

We simply cannot even begin to "chance" you. What AP/IB/Dual enrollment courses have you taken? All sorts of blanks here.

    Now, you have your GOAL.

Even their rings say West Point.

People know Annapolis is USNA. Probably less people know West Point is actually USMA.

West Point is a lot easier to say. Some people call it "The Point" which I don't like.

    Army West Point.... Haha.

I heard someone say "the Point" once.... Thought they meant Kings Point.... They didn't see that coming.

    "Wait, which point?"
