My DS has mentioned that he is in need of a captain murphy deck officer 1 study guide. I have found them online: however, was wondering if parents and mids could please chime in as to the benefit of such study guides.

Besides deck officer 1 were any other guides especially helpful? Any other books more helpful?
Does any state parents association sell these study guides or does anyone recommend any store in particular to purchase from?

As always, thanks for the collective expertise. :shake:

PS Before I get bashed, DS at sea, no internet, just doing the research for him, he will purchase himself.

I have never used the Murphy books myself but I do know that a lot of hawsepipers already in the industry use them. I absolutely think that some kind of study guide is definitely beneficial.

When I was upgrading the practice tests on my study disc helped me identify my strong and weak points. I was able to focus my study better, but in the end it was going back to one of my KP textbooks from 1991 that got me over the hump in passing my nemesis sections.

Both the Murphy books and Lapware will be provided during your 1/C year. Trust me, there is no point for it now. Your son/daughter will have plenty of time to study for license with those materials. Besides, they are not going to help on sea projects anyways, which go much more in depth than multiple choice USCG license questions.

Some of Murphy's books will be issued before 1/c year, such as SOLAS. They are useful for some classes, as some teachers use "Coast Guard Questions," (questions that are taken from the Coast Guard database). The database used to be on the official Coast Guard website, but they pulled it down about a year ago for some reason. These data bases can still be found, you just have to ask the right people.
