This morning, the usually excellent CBS News Sunday Morning outdid themselves with a short but touching piece on the folks in Vermont who quarry and produce the marble headstones for our veterans.
The piece had a short profile on USMA 2009 graduate 1LT Daren Hidalgo, who was KIA in Afghanistan. It show the production of his headstone from the quarrying of a 40-ton select marble block to its final place in the West Point cemetery.
The order arrives and a stencil is created...
The engraving is completed and polished by hand...
The headstone's engraving is painted to give depth and relief to the letters.
Grip hands, though it be from the shadows.
