I just got back from taking my CFA, and I just submitted them to USAFA.

    Basketball throw: 59ft
    Pull ups: 12
    Shuttle run: 8.5seconds
    Sit-ups: 89
    Push-ups: 59
    One Mile: 6:08

I broke most of the averages for scores, however, will my basketball/push ups affect me overall? I felt like I tried my best, but will a slightly below average score make them question my application? thanks

Are you in a competitive state?

Then go to work on what you can control like any outstanding items for your USAFA app plus your Plan B and C. The CFA is now out of your control. Once CFA scores are submitted to USAFA, they can't be revised unless Admissions requests an update.

The push-ups and basketball throw may hurt; ideally you want to exceed the posted averages in every category. That being said, unless you get a re-do, you'll just have to shine on the rest of your application.

@flyingfuzz I have a 1380 math/reading SAT, 3.83academy altered gpa, and have good leadership such as senior class president (of 400 students) and cross country team captain, however dont you think since I broke most mean scores I should be fine?

You will be fine. You did your best. Those scores don't sound bad. There are kids at the Academy that wish they could get those scores. I am just saying that from my own perception.

I think overall your stats look good, but the question is does MD MOCs talk regarding noms...don't divert the topic here, post that question on the Nom forum.

Just saying, competitive states your chances may be different than compared to non-competitive states.

Honestly, I think you are a strong candidate even with the BBall throw and push-ups. I would work on your push ups for BCT. The altitude can be an issue if you are from MD.

My DS had almost identical scores and he was accepted. It all depends on the rest of the variables. Good luck!

I would not think it is too bad. I do wonder how the captain of a cross country team only managed a 6:08 mile. As was said, worry about what you have control over. It sounds like you have good stats overall. Best wishes/

    Its good

I think your fine also. Remember the CFA only account for a small percent. Your academics and leadership have a broader impact. You have time to improve SAT and ACT scores. Focus on that and completing your application as soon as possible.

Ahh, if you are a x-country runner I can see where the upper body strength may get you... What I meant by my earlier comment was that ideally you would meet or exceed in every category as then you would know for sure you aren't going to get docked for something controllable. I wouldn't worry about it too much though since runners aren't expected to carry around a lot of extra weight. I used to run cross country and have a runners build... it took me forever to build up some upper body strength for the CFA!

Just kidding Lewis, runners need to be lean and mean (weight costs time). It is understandable that the other parts of the test took a toll on the mile. Best wishes on your application. I would hope that the CFA is not that big of a deal, they know you are in pretty good shape as your scores are reasonable. I would imagine there are areas of more highly weighted. Do you have the drive and determination and stick to it ness, do you have the characteristics that represent the successful candidate at USAFA? GPA, SAT and involvement, and time management kills. Anything that demonstrates proficiency at these are likely above the CFA.
