Question on the CFA- Does the academy look at the total performance from the test or can they ask for a re-do based on one not so good result? Took the test this past Friday:

    BB Throw - 80 Ft
    Pull-Ups - 14
    Shuttle Run - 8.34
    Sit-Ups - 103
    Push-Ups - 75
    Mile-Run 8.45

    They look at it holistically.
However, if you do very poorly on one event, you will fail. I mean very poorly.

    You're looking good right now.

That's a really solid CFA. Bring down the mile time and you are way ahead of the average.

The phys ed teacher submitted to admissions yesterday for my son. He is a recruited athlete for football (offensive lineman). This was after a 4 hour practice, so he knows he can do the mile faster. I was trying to gauge if they might ask him to re-do for a better mile time...I know he does not want a re-do.

The scores are good, doubt they'll ask for a re-test. However, taking the CFA after a four hour practice is a dumb idea.

Good strong results. I think you will be OK but the mile time is slow. The average mile time is 6:43.

    @Iwheel
I think what majmatt is trying to say is that he should have scheduled the CFA at another time when his body would have been at its optimal instead of "carelessly" taking it after a 4 hour practice.

Oh Really? Do you know his schedule or the schedule of the person who administered the test? I was simply asking the advice of anybody who might be in the know...to help us with the results.

OK, folks...last I checked, we're not here to tell anyone when to take a CFA or how to comb their hair or any other such thing. We're here to help, right? Right.

Now, BOK, that mile time may be cause for concern. Don't be surprised if admissions wants him to retake it, especially since he did so well on the other events. It appears to be an anomaly.

they all at max or near max (i'm jealous)- except for run

to improve on running i recommend measuring how far u ran using this website

    http://www.walkjogrun.net/

    run every other day

do a mile run for speed one day and a 2-3 miler for endurance the other

I have improved from 7:09 from the beginning of summer to a 6:30 now. I do consider myself 6 pounds overweight. I do not play sports at all (that will change this upcoming school year).

    good luck

    Mile too slow

Mile is too slow. Be prepared for them to ask for a retest. The rest is outstanding, though. A good gauge for a minimum time is half of the US Army's PT standards for a 2 mile run for 18 year old men. The time is 15:56. Have your son aim for 7:58 and he should be good. Well, with those other scores, anyway. Its okay to have one bad area, you just can't be too bad in an area, I think. My opinion anyway.

Thanks for your input. You are spot on. My son did retake the CFA again when he had a week off from football and was under the 7:58 mark. He maxed in a number of sections again. The mile is tough when you are a big offensive lineman. Hopefully we will see him we see him wearing black & gold next fall.

My son posted the following scores for the usna cfa:
    BB toss 64
    Pullups 18
    Shuttle 9.9
    Crunches 66
    pushups 50
    mile run 6:54

Pass? Fail? Should he take it again? Is the USNA strictly pass/fair, viz., is there any reason to take again if you have "passed"? Thanks.

According to USNA1985's sticky post, doing well on the CFA and give you a boost for the overall score for an appointment.

    CFA Results

I think I did poorly on my CFA and was wondering if these were passing results:

    BB 62.2 Feet
Pull Ups: 4 (never my strongest)
    Shuttle Run: 8.72
    Sit ups: 41
    Push ups 52
    Mile run: 6.27

I know I did far from great but I hope this will at least be acceptable.

    Thank you

If any of your scores are under the average, it is in your best interest to improve them if you are given the opportunity.

    Bball: Good
Pull Up: Border line, more is better
Sit Ups: Not enough. Need to get up in the 60s at a minimum.
    Push Ups: Good
    Mile: Good
