Has anyone gotten a CGAS acceptance yet? When do they usually go out? Can you wait until May 1 to accept that as well? Best of luck to everyone!

They usually start going out well before the Christmas deadline, but I haven't seen anyone post that they've received a CGAS offer yet this year. Yes, you have until 1 May to accept those offers.

If you get a CGAS offer and attending the Coast Guard Academy is your goal, then you should absolutely accept a CGAS offer. A CGAS offer is your golden ticket into the following year's class. Yes, it is one more year of (paid) school. However, as long as you meet all your academic, military, and athletic requirements during that CGAS year, you are guaranteed an offer for the following year.

I appreciate the explanation!

Are you able to participate in your sport at CGAS? We haven't heard anything yet but my DD said she would accept a CGAS offer as long as she could continue swimming.

My son has researched NAPS - and it looks like some of the prep programs have different sports - they compete with different Juco’s.

Thanks! She's a D2 ranked swimmer so we have three other schools wanting her to commit. CGA is her top choice so we are just patiently waiting. It's hard on these kids.

We are in a similar situation and I 💯 agree, the waiting is so hard. Best of luck to her!

There are several locations that CGAS attend. Any athletes that USCGA is recruiting would most likely be assigned to a location that offers their sport. Not all locations offer all sports. Competition is against other prep schools, JUCO, and possibly D3 JV teams.

I heard NAPS and MMI - do you know what other schools are part of the prep program?

Per https://uscga.edu/admissions/cgas/

"The program begins with a rigorous three-week orientation on the Academy’s campus, after which scholars are sent to Georgia Military College, Marion Military Institute in Alabama, the Naval Academy Prep School in Rhode Island or the University of Massachusetts in Boston."

UCONN Avery Point added this year (Scholars stay on USCGA campus) https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Rel...tners-with-uconn-avery-point-on-stem-program/

Looks like UCONN focuses on women and underrepresented minorities…..do the others take men?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the prep schools have a swim team. My daughter is a freshman swimming at the academy right now, and when we were waiting and wondering her fate last fall, we researched all of them. Marion Military Institute, Georgia Military College, Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS), and new this year UCONN Avery Point which is right near CGA.

I know they often place kids at different prep schools based on sports but I'm not sure what they do in the case of swimmers. If your daughter has been in communication with John or Mary at CGA, that may be a great question to ask them.

Not sure about all of them, but it looks like UCONN does have a pool so she could probably at least continue to work out in lieu of a varsity swim team for the year.

The swim team at CGA has been a great environment. The kids have a blast and are really supportive of each other and the coaches are incredible people. Our daughters was actually pretty burned out on swimming by senior year of high school and really seems to love it again at the Academy!

Best of luck to you!!

Thank you! Yes she has spoken to both John and Mary multiple times. I'll check with her to see if she has asked that question. I'm glad to hear your daughter loves the team. When mine met the coaches during AIM she really liked them and they have been extremely responsive to her which has been great.
